Colonize, rape the people, rape the environment, exterminate/enslave...

Ironic... isn't it?

I prefer the Sagan model. Well... actually Frank Drake's model.

Sagan's model...

8. Sorry NB... I Have To Use Humor So As Not To Blow My Brains Out, That Said...
Found this recently... it's a course syllabus on a course I took many moons ago.

Check it out, because it has a hell of a reading list.

The first link is syllabus with course reading list, second is full reading list.

This guy was a MoFo, and I swear... as you will see... his name is John Henry.

13. And If You Want To Get REALLY Enraged About Colonization... Read THIS !!!

It will kick your ass.

And this book is when the powers that be started turning against Twain. But he actually went there to see for himself.

Twain was critical of imperialism in other countries as well. In Following the Equator, Twain expresses "hatred and condemnation of imperialism of all stripes".<25> He was highly critical of European imperialism, notably of Cecil Rhodes, who greatly expanded the British Empire, and of Leopold II, King of the Belgians.<25> King Leopold's Soliloquy is a stinging political satire about his private colony, the Congo Free State. Reports of outrageous exploitation and grotesque abuses led to widespread international protest in the early 1900s, arguably the first large-scale human rights movement. In the soliloquy, the King argues that bringing Christianity to the country outweighs a little starvation. Leopold's rubber gatherers were tortured, maimed and slaughtered until the turn of the century, when the conscience of the Western world forced Brussels to call a halt.

14. A great book indeed
I had an instructor on Colonialism back in the day. We did readying on the Thai Experience and then went to dinner to a local place manned by refugees. The kids would tell us the stories...

To put it mildly, horrific.

15. Whoa... First Hand Testimony...
That must have been truly intense stuff.

:wow:

Ya know... sometimes some of us forget, or don't realize we ever knew.

I mean, sometimes I forget that I was alive (in the 5th grade) when they integrated our school. And although me and my family had no problem with it, others... not so much.

If you were born after that, it's an abstract... something you read about rather than lived.

And... there's something about the human brain that tries to minimize the pain.

Pain is there to tell you something is wrong, but you can only be receptive to that signal for so long.

Peace...

17. Well as a red cross worker
I got to listen to refugee experience from Central America... and that was also quite horrific.

People in the US have no clue what went down, or the ethnic cleansing carried by the Guatemalan elite on the Maya, for example.

And Americans are truly anesthetized from their own history, and we do a terrible job of teaching it.
