Poll: 65% back Wall Street reform... Repugs just kneecapped themselves

In their zeal to protect big business and Wall Street, the Republicans are going to kill their own midterm election momentum:

Politically speaking, I'm ecstatic that the Republicans block financial reform today.

I hope they block it all summer.... and then the Democrats get a bill passed anyway in September. Right before the elections, and right on the 2-year anniversary of Lehman Brothers.

9. No he's not. They are going to go back and compromise, and compromise and compromise
as per usual.

3. This is a head fake

They can not just go along with the Democrats. They will put up a "fight". Then the GOP will say that the Democrats came up with a good bill and sign it.

They are walking a fine line. They need to keep the TEA party happy while at the same time keeping the general voters happy.

Not easy to do for the GOP.

4. But most news articles don't single out Republicans. They blame the Senate in general.

5. Yep!
They need to please the "NUT" wing of the party who will send them money for being "tough" on Obama! Of course there is no way in hell they can keep this up, and they know it. They just need some of the morons to send in money when the send out emails tonight asking for money to "fight" the reform from the "socialists"!

Now in my view this is painting themselves further and further into a corner. They are playing to the idiots in the tea party, and this will alienate many who are really pissed off at that games they are playing, and are also pissed off big time with Wall Street and what they did to this country, along with the help of Bush and company! Sooner or later the republicans in congress will have to choose between the nut wing and the rest of the party. If they throw the teabaggers under the buss, they will be looking at teabag candidates in November running in the elections, if they choose to stay with the teabaggers, the more moderate republicans will be staying home like they did in 2008. The big questions will be who do they choose to go with, and who bad will it hurt them in November?

6. According to one (admittedly suspect Rasmussen) poll, similar

percentages of the public support the AZ Juan Crow law. Are the President and our other top leaders knee capping themselves on that issue? I think the repubs know that the teaparty peaked to soon without some other hot button issue to see them through to November and are LOVING this as an issue.

Edit - sorry for the thread drift but I think putting too much stock in one poll on one issue as spelling the end of either of the two major parties in unrealistic.

7. It's not just one poll.... virtually every poll shows 60+% in favor of WSR

And there hasnt been enough time yet to get good polls on the Arizona law.

Wait a week.

14. Indeed. The power of the idiots to believe any GOP lie, no matter
how outrageous, will ensure that the blame will lie with the DEMOCRATS when financial reform doesn't happen. Please, folks, stop expecting rationality from these people.
