Pursuant to another OP about helping Arizona elect Democrats: Support Maricopa Co. Dems!
Here's the other OP (thanks Nikki Stone 1):

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=8221908&mesg_id=8221908

Maricopa County has 2/3 of the state's population and 18 of the 30 lege districts in Arizona. Despite the big Republican majority in the county (and they are largely responsible for electing the knuckledraggers who pass atrocities like the Birther Bill and this anti-immigration law), most of the state's Democrats live in this county. Most of the field work that is done to get out the Dem vote here is under the purview Maricopa County Democratic Party and they have a hard time raising funds because the State Party overshadows them.

Gerrymandered districts and low turnout primaries have created a situation where it may not be possible to change the makeup of the Legislature much but there is much opportunity at the state level to elect Democrats to put a check on their excesses. IMHO if you want to help AZ (or at least stop them from passing more "groundbreaking" wingnut laws) please send a few bucks to the good folks at the Maricopa County Democratic Party. http://maricopadems.com/

5. Like tossing money into a wishing well.
Sending money is going to get the knuckle draggers to vote for Democrats? How does that work?

Face facts, as long as the Republicans hold the majority in voters, they will keep being able to pass more stupid laws. And me throwing my money away makes no sense, show me that the Democrats in Arizona can actually win up in Maricopa County, and I'll make a donation, but not until then.

9. Your money. Spend it as you wish.
I have everything to gain from doing whatever I can to get the Democratic message out here and get Democrats elected.

16. Look.35% of the voters of AZ are GOP ,33 % are Dem the rest
are either Idie, libertarian or Green. The Hispanic population is around 38% of the population. 17% to 20% are elegiable to vote. Do the math and tell me why we can't win in Nov? Here are some figures for you. These are last years .Both parties have declined in registration since then and the indies now have larger numbers but it is a good indication of the direction of our division.

excerpt from) Arizona Republic
Arizona voter registration grows to nearly 3.1 million
by Mary Jo Pitzl / Apr. 21, 2009

From last November’s election through April 1, voter registration rose by more than 100,000 people, or 3.4 percent, according to figures from the Arizona Secretary of State….

Republicans continue to dominate the voter rolls, with 1,137,262 voters, but the party posted the smallest percentage gain, up 1.7 percent.

Democrats were next, with 1,046,140 voters, up 2.3 percent.

The largest percentage gain was among Libertarians, who posted an 11.6 percent gain in registration, for a total of 20,256 voters.

The Green Party, which gained ballot status last year, boosted its numbers 5 percent, to 4,210 voters.

Voters who are unaffiliated with any party continue to be the third-largest voting group in Arizona, with 880,128 voters, a 6.8 percent gain from November…

19. It's not about convincing the knuckledraggers.
It's about getting the dormant Dem vote out in Maricopa County. This helps Terry Goddard and other statewide candidates get elected.

6. I lived in AZ for quite a few years Northwestern corner, Kingman to be precise...
I knew a lot of really good people in that area, and I think they will take the legislators that passed this monster on. As for the governor, she is history, just as Hayworth was finally tossed out by his district.

Most assuredly, I can't say how you should spend your money, but I don't think collective punishment ever served anyone. It hurts the innocent as well as the guilty, and that is not something we should be trying to do. TOo be sure, no every Arizonan is a RW freak. Clumping all of them into a subset of knuckledraggers is not really what people should be doing.

Go to Vegas, it's more expensive, and probably a lot more fun, but not all people of any state are what some would perceive them to be.

7. I'm still wondering where I said anything about "all people"...
I'm pretty sure people suggesting I ever did are simply making shit up. If I'm mistaken however, it should be very, very easy to demonstrate such.

10. You prefer "The Jim Crow State"? How about "The Jaime Crow State"?
It makes little difference to me, I suppose.

In any case, the only ones I see using the words "all" and "people" together are you. Please show me where I did, else admit you're making shit up.

12. Washington State
The Watchmen.

The virulently anti-gay hate group gather in Lynnwood, Washington

As noted at the blog Box Turtle Bulletin the venue is owned by the Lynnwood Public Facilities District,.
“Our understanding is that they’re law-abiding. They have a right of free speech just like any other group,” said Mike Echelbarger, the board’s chairman.
Watchmen on the Walls (the full name) expects as many as 700 people to attend the prayer gathering, including religious leaders and an anti-gay activist who claims the Holocaust was perpetrated by gays.

Watchmen on the Walls is planning four "regular services, like church services," said Sergy Trikhodko. He described himself as a contact person for the Lynnwood event, but said he could not speak about Watchmen on the Walls, its mission or history.

The Everett, Washington Herlad says also listed as a speaker for the Lynnwood gathering is former Seattle Seahawk Ken Hutcherson. He's now a pastor at the Antioch Bible Church in Kirkland and a vocal opponent to gay marriage."

The Southern Poverty Law Center lists 15 hate groups in Washington, 16 in Arizona, so you win. Oregon has 10, I'm not living in a delusion.....

And I'll be just as outspoken about WA (and will in all probability move). Just keep me updated.

15. Maricopa county will eventually become a blue one within 50 years
when you consider it has the fifth largest city in america and is home to a university (in the PAC-10 too) eventually becoming a democratic county is inevitable. All we have to do is wait. Remember, Dallas County Texas used to be the same way.
