Bill Halter closes gap with Blanche Lincoln to 7%: FIRE a corporate Dem--give to Halter
Like Joe Lieberman losing his primary to Ned Lamont, beating Blanche Lincoln who BRAGGED about killing the public option will send a message to party leaders that we will not be satisfied with candidates and policies nearly identical to Republicans (only sold with less fear and more platitudes).

We need to make the Democratic party accountable to and afraid of their base and the only way to do that is to FIRE pols who turn a deaf ear to the people and an open ear (and wallet) to corporate socipaths and Wall Street.

Token gestures toward progressive policies like the half-hearted effort at the public option and the nearly non-existent opposition to every destructive thing that Bush did is simply not enough.

When Democrats have the majority, we expect major progressive action. It is not just good policy, but good politics. If your base is excited, they will turn out and vote, donate, and do the ground work for candidates. Corporate Democrats by contrast must depend on corporate donations, Republicans being even less enthusiastic for their candidates than Democrats are for the Corporate Dem, and enough Democrats holding their nose and voting for them as the lesser of two evils--which is essentially the official ''strategy'' of the DLC.

Whether or not Bill Halter will end up being a superior senator, we need to send a message that there is no place in the Democratic Party for anti-Democratic (and anti-democratic) candidates like Blanche Lincoln. Give a couple bucks to Halter and help send her to K Street or better yet the unemployment line where she belongs.

Remember how Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln bragged to voters about helping Joe Lieberman kill the public option? Remember when she said "I don't answer to my party" in a TV ad during the Democratic primary? Well, it's finally catching up with her.

A new poll shows Democratic primary challenger Lt. Gov. Bill Halter is gaining on her -- for the first time, the race is now down to single-digits!

Your previous donation helped Bill Halter a lot. Can you keep the momentum going by http://act.boldprogressives.org/go/722?akid=792.276560.E4C0ZD&t=4">chipping in another $4 to Halter's campaign today?

The new poll shows Lincoln ahead 38% to 31% with many voters still making up their mind before next month's primary.

Another recent poll shows Blanche Lincoln losing to every potential Republican. Bill Halter is already beating some of them, and his name recognition and popularity are rising every week.

5. Oddly enough, I don't think that extra dollar breaks with that spirit.

2. I like it
Blanche needs to be taught a solid lesson. She hung herself out to dry with that anti-HCR position. I'd never even heard of her before!!

3. Woo hoo!!
I might vote early and I may not.
I will probably end up voting on the day of the primary so I can have a paper ballot.

I don't trust electronic voting machines.

7. I got the email and sent the contribution this afternoon - I can't do much but even
little amounts are welcome and help the fight.

I urge everyone to read and if you can send Halter a few bucks.

May he be the first of many more to come this year.

10. Here is something I read about the Lincoln/Halter primary challenge that stuck with me - essentially
dead man walking:

Lincoln, Lincoln, I've Been Thinkin'

-snip-
I could see an argument for deploying challengers wherever you can find them just to throw the fear of God into Democrats in Congress. Perhaps the fact that Lincoln is almost certain to lose makes her an especially good target. There was a scene in "The Untouchables" where a federal agent, played by Sean Connery, is trying unsuccessfully to get one of Al Capone's hireling to talk. So he goes outside the room, picks up the corpse of one of the bad guys, starts interrogating him as if he's still alive, and then shoots him. The bad guy inside the room, unaware that the colleague that Connery shot was already dead, immediately becomes terrified and starts blabbing. See the first minute of this:

If you're not following my analogy, the progressives are Sean Connery and the corpse is Blanche Lincoln. If you're going to make an example out of somebody, why not pick somebody who's already (politically) dead? Or so the logic might go.
