After years of praise, Glenn Beck decides to label Bush a ‘progressive’

By Stephen C. Webster
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 -- 12:34 am

At one point in his career, right-wing pundit Glenn Beck happily declared that President George W. Bush and D.C. Comics icon Batman are just alike: both strong and unafraid to take down the bad guys, no matter where they hide.

... Which is why it was a bit odd listening to Beck's Monday radio broadcast, in which he called Bush a "progressive," placing his one-time hero squarely in a political ideology the conspiratorial-minded host calls a "cancer" on America.

Considering this particular television personality's propensity for praising Bush, his rhetorical about-face is truly amazing.

Stacked together, the two claims -- made years apart in wildly differing political climates -- might beg the question: Why does Glenn Beck hate Batman?

After all, this is a man who claimed American progressives helped craft Nazi propaganda, even though Adolf Hitler himself explains in "Mein Kampf" that much of the Nazis' messaging techniques were scooped from the British.

<snip>

During his Monday radio show, Beck acknowledged something a bit unusual for him: the fact that President Obama has continued many of President Bush's policies.

1. Has Beck finally jumped the shark?
Doesn't he know Bush is a hero to the Teabaggers? The last Real President with big ass RED, WHITE AND BLUE brass COJONES! The last take no-prisoners, real Cowboy ass kicking, war waging dead or alive taking Christian, strutting because it's the only way one can walk when your Cojones are that big.

Beck has jumped the shark.

2. More indication that Beck is just in it for shock value and has no real
thought or philosophy behind anything he says. So long as it is anti-left, with "left" being defined as anything or anyone Beck say it is, his audience is happy with whatever he does.

It's all about the money for Glenn.

3. This is what the Tea Party is all about
After the 08 ass-whupping, conservatives came to the conclusion that Republicans lost because they weren't far enough to the right, and ever since they've been dragging the party in an increasingly radical direction.

The truth is that the vast majority of teabaggers are Bush's "backwash" - the bitter-enders who propped up his 20-something percent approval ratings towards the end of his presidency. The Tea Party has just been a way for them to cover their embarrassment and pretend that they never supported Bush in the first place. Hence his new designation as a "progressive."

I think you are correct, they are the bitter-enders. In a sense that is reassuring.

5. It's pretty clear why Beck is smearing Bush
Bush was the most despised president in US history. The dislike for his terms of office were the direct causation for Democratic victories in 2008.

Now he's coming out with a book, which of course, will remind people why he was so disliked and why Barack Obama was elected president.

It's the tactic that Fox uses to mislabel bad behaving Republicans as Democrats.

The only people who would fall for this scam are the complete idiots and utter fools who follow Beck's every word as God's own truth.

It's laughable on the face of it.

6. If by "progressive" Beck means "murderous psychopath with a bald-head fetish", I can concur.
