will AZ law increase ways to fine/arrest legal immigrants on other charges? |
|
This is sort of functioning like a random DUI, car equipment, car registration, license currency, and seatbelt check, all in one.
Almost all of us could be fined/ticketed at some point for some minor infraction (or worse, if maybe once every two years our BAL is .09 instead of .08). . . and if we question it, can be charged with resisting arrest.
I wonder if this is a sweeping way to collect more money and/or fill prisons with legal immigrants (in addition to possibly a stealth form of voter caging like Greg Palast brought up.)

1. It would encourage AZ law enforcement to turn them over to ICE |
|
instead of filling AZ state and local facilities.

2. Ice is expanding its demands on state and local law enforcement |
|
not the other way around.

4. Seems it would discourage Hispanics from reporting crimes done to them |
|
I look for a surge of very nasty shit done by some of the gool ol bigots thinking they are now safe to abuse.

5. There seems to so much focus on traffic stops. To effectively enforce this, police will have to |
|
check pedestrians or people at work or shoppers or people just hanging out at the park or on the corner.
Many illegal immigrants are not going to get a drivers license. They will walk or bike or hitch a ride to wherever they have to go. If all the police do is traffic stops, they are liable to get sued under this law for not going after non-driving illegal immigrants.
