Republicans are mean people.
Look at the laws they proudly pass: one that punishes people for seeming too Mexican in Arizona, and one that punishes women exercising their right to choose and their doctors in Oklahoma. Republicans don't want people speaking any language other than English, not because they love English (look at how those mean assholes mangle every sentence they try), but because it's the only language they know. They don't want anyone to be given any breaks, or be cut any slack for not having any breaks. They don't want to acknowledge any religious or (heaven forbid!) intellectual heritage in America beside their own. The only freedom they'd die defending is the right to kill anyone trying to grab their guns. Republicans enable mean old sourpusses to boss around people whose freedoms they hate and mean young barracudas who prey on people with few resources.

Republicans are just plain old, mean old motherfuckers.

Mean people suck, therefore Republicans *SUCK!*

They don't seem to have the human traits I am accustomed to.

10. They ARE a life form, but not sure what kind. Certainly not far up the evolutionary ladder.
But that's probably why they don't believe in evolution. It would be admitting they could possibly be a less-than-advanced member of the primate family. They aren't smart enough to be aliens.

BTW, I've searched for Hawking's program but couldn't find it. Anyone know the dates/times it's on?

3. The apparent "meanness" of Republican thought is a byproduct
of having lived a lives that included almost no enlightenment with regard to their relationships with everything. Their thought processes appear to only include a paucity of variables, a deficiency that causes them to be totally self-centered, a grave error of logic.

I remember watching the news with my father one night and I asked him why Republicans seem so mean? Even at 10 it was obvious that they were fucksticks.

19. I think under Reagan is when the right REALLY turned vile
In the RR era, the religious right was ushered in, and with that came an absolute hatred of poor people, gays (Reagan ignored the AIDS crisis for about 6 years), minorities, & just about anyone who didn't share their views...

26. Toss in Chickenhawks as well...
For all of their neo-con squealing about the military...very few have served.

Some of those from yesteryear that did:

Nixon Lt Cdr in the Navy during WWII

Ike General of the Armies

Reagan Cpt Army Signal Corps (never left Hollywood during service)

Daddy bush Navy (questions about his ditching his crew)

McCain (terrible pilot, POW)

Dole (wounded in action)

Recents:

bush (AWOL from Air National Guard after they instituted drug screening)

(damn, can't think of any others off hand).

Some D's through the years:

JFK Navy

Johnson Navy

Carter Navy

Inoyue Army (Medal of Honor)

J Kerry

Bob Kerry (Medal of Honor)

Truman Army

There are many more, but those that seem to be military hawks, are generally those that never served.

"Celebrities" that love war, but never served:

Limbaugh

Beck

Hannity

O'Reilly

Coulter

Buchanan

Scarborough

Anyone on FOX...especially those airheads on "FOX and Friends"

33. Rethugs that served in the military
You included Ike (Eisenhower) in there who if around today would probably be a centrist to lib Democrat. Remember he is the one who warned us about the power of the military/industrial complex which is another way of warning us about approaching fascism, the fascism that the Bushes and Rove tried to install. The present rethugs are still trying but they've been marginalized by Dem victories in '06 and '08 and the stark desolation that their policies over the last 30 years, save for the 8 Clinton years, have wrought in the country. We as a country are in sad shape what with all the unemployment, the hugh amounts spent on the wars, the trillions lost during the housing crisis and the billions raked in by the banks from the housing mees who then were then bailed out with taxpayer billions and now refuse to lend it out to help the economy recover, and all the tax cuts for the rich which is one reason we can't have a single-payer health care system like other western democracies. But the sick don't count with the rethugs. The tax rate on the rich during Ike's time, by the way, was 90%, not to your typical present-day rethug liking. Just saying . . .

35. Eisenhower would be a liberal now.
He called out the military industrial comlex.

He taxed the rich at 92%, and he also said "We have no business getting involved in a land war in Southeast Asia" after the French finally left what was then French Indo-China, now Vietnam.

Quite a prophet.

They freely and knowing and deliberately choose to vote as they do. Their politicians are nothing more than reflections of them.

24. I understand the rich republican voters because I.....
understand their motivation..pure greed because it puts money in their pockets. The average Joe republicans that consistently votes against his own interest is a very, very paranoid people. I am convinced there is a mental incapacity to filter information and they can be easily manipulated. All you have to do is tell them that someone is trying to take what little they have.

of high order such as murder and wife beating are committed by registered Republicans. Couldn't find any research on it though but think that someone should take a look at it.

27. But as some of us can note here, not all *mean people* are republicans.
Sometimes, otherwise nice people can behave mean spirited when figuratively backed into a corner.

It's not that easy to over-generalize. But I concur, most people who claim to be republican have this air about them that would indicate they made it where they are ALL BY THEMSELVES. There are also a few conservative democrats who give off similar VIBES.

It's not so simple.

Bummer man. ;) :smoke:

Many of the more belligerent, exemplary-of-conservative/rightward-characteristics-and-traits type people I've encountered online, NEVER in person, always insist they're not conservatives/repubs.

Strange, eh?

30. My whole extended family is mostly a collection of "pull myself up by the bootstraps"
Edited on Thu Apr-29-10 11:14 AM by ShortnFiery
born leaders. Almost 30 years ago - after we were first married, my husband said that I was somewhat of a pushy-broad control freak ... then he met the rest of my family and noted that everyone was either in-charge or attempting to take-over. After that, he has dubbed me, "The DIPLOMAT of our family." Hint: that's not saying much. :silly:

I don't know about religious right wingers, but my experience with secular right wingers is extensive. Believe it or not, when you interact one-on-one, there are many laudatory traits to someone who prides themselves at being "ruggedly individualistic." If you forego the screwed up stereotypes they spew ad nausea, their BEHAVIORS often do not match their rhetoric.

That is, I know some republicans who when it comes down with helping others (those less blessed), their behavior betrays their party affiliation.
