This is disgusting - on Rachel Maddow right now
Edited on Wed Apr-28-10 09:39 PM by Joanie Baloney
A new law passed in Oklahoma over the Governor's veto - women getting abortions (the few, I'm sure), must receive an intra-vaginal ultrasound before the procedure and the monitor will be placed so the woman can view it. The wonderful folks in Oklahoma said "the woman can avert her eyes" ...oh , wow! Thanks so much, assholes.

Horrendous!

As Rachel put it, this is Oklahoma's version of 'choice'.

(editing to add 'Maddow' cuz I just read the Snuggie thread. And spelling.)

2. They might as well call it the Med Student Full Employment Act
nothing a legislature does, will prevent abortions...it can only drive them underground (say hello to 1960) and into the "care" of med students who need to make a few bucks..

39. I suggest everyone........
....buy stock in wire hanger manufacturers. Business will be booming. The way I figure it, Oklahoma priests must be running out of kids to sexually abuse so that's the reason for this asinine anti-abortion law.

26. Only too true
from Karen Breslau, "Overplanned Parenthood: Ceausescu's cruel law", Newsweek, Jan. 22, 1990, p. 35.

http://www.ceausescu.org/ceausescu_texts/overplanned_parenthood.htm

The government's enforcement techniques were as bad as the law. Women under the age of 45 were rounded up at their workplaces every one to three months and taken to clinics, where they were examined for signs of pregnancy, often in the presence of government agents - dubbed the "menstrual police" by some Romanians. A pregnant woman who failed to "produce" a baby at the proper time could expect to be summoned for questioning. Women who miscarried were suspected of arranging an abortion. Some doctors resorted for forging statistics. "If a child died in our district, we lost 10 to 25 percent of our salary," says Dr. Geta Stanescu of Bucharest. "But it wasn't our fault: we had no medicine or milk, and the families were poor."

The answer for them is to leave the state for medical care elsewhere...when do you bet OK will stop women at the borders?

9. Great idea!
Or maybe OK will adopt the Arizona plan and extend it questioning all pregnant women. Or maybe they give them ankle bracelets that render them immobile if they attempt to cross the state line. Kinda like those shopping cart thingies.

Gawd!

stopped on many fronts. Am not sure how to do it but the Republicans are running ramshod all over everyone else's choice's in this Country.
They are using aggressive and hostile tactics on everything. They are NOT going to stop. They must be stopped and the Dems are going to have to do something or else it will just keep getting worse.

7. Women in OK, whether pro-choice or not, should start boycotting
everything until this is repealed. It's an insult to every female regardless of age, religion etc. They suck big time! Can't figure out why anyone would want to live in such a backward state. And, I live in VA and can still say that - but probably not for long. We have another almost 4 yrs of this asshole Gov and AG. rec'd

12. i've never had an abortion.
but i have had several miscarriages and conceived 2 children with the help of a fertility doctor. i have had MANY intra-vaginal ultrasounds. they are VERY uncomfortable and VERY invasive. it make me sick to think that women who have made a choice have to be VIOLATED like that. and that is just the tip of the iceberg of disgust i have for what i just heard. this is just disgusting.

Two IF babies here too. Did the whole "every other day" trans-v u/s routine through god knows how many cycles. "Invasive" doesn't even capture it.

My solution? Subject each of the bastards who voted for this to a trans-v u/s. If they're not female, use whatever orifice is most proximal. See what they think then.

How is this not assault? Invasion of privacy? I don't see how it's legal.

This law is brought to you by the people that didn't want government intruding on their health care.

This is why Repubs. keep screaming about state's rights..they can discriminate against who they want..Arizona..they can take rights away from who they want...women.

We're going backward not forward.

It's very sad, and scary.
