A TEACHER wielding a knife broke into a primary school in southern China and stabbed 15 pupils and their teacher yesterday, on the same day that another attacker was executed for killing eight children last month.
None of the 15 pupils or the teacher was in a life-threatening condition, according to officials. The attacker, identified by a local official as Chen Kangbing, broke into Leicheng No1 Primary School in Guangdong province's Leizhou city about 3pm local time and hacked at the children and their teacher. Chen teaches at the Hongguan Primary School in nearby Baisha.
There was no immediate word on a motive for the attack, which came the same day that Zheng Minsheng, 42, was executed in neighbouring Fujian province for the murders of eight children outside their elementary school on 23 March as they waited with their parents for classes to start.
During his trial, Zheng said he had killed the children because he was upset after being jilted by a woman and being treated badly by her wealthy family.
