Ms. Otto,
For that matter what could a Sergeant in the Marine Corps do to support and defend the Constitution? Shifting the responsibility to do something, anything, you can do to fulfill your oath is shirking your duty. It's hard for me to believe you take your oath as anything except a minor detail of assuming your office when you tell me to contact my representatives on "the federal level". How easy. How routine. How callow. How like a Good German. The Constitution of the United States is threatened by the highest office in the land.
As a Sergeant, as a Private for that matter, I did my best to uphold my oath. I couldn't do much, but I did it. I refused to obey illegal orders. I thought for myself. I trained my men to be men first, citizens second, only then Marines. I didn't have much power, but I used what I had. It is incumbent on you to do the same in the execution of your oath of office.
You may not have a magic wand, but there are things you can do. I want to know what you are doing, if anything, to fulfill your oath to support and defend the Constitution.
Semper pacificus,
Daniel I. Fearn
Former Sergeant of Marine Infantry
P.S. If you would like my vote next time, don't be so condescending in your response. If I bother to ask you about your oath of office, of course I've asked All my elected officials the same thing. George Bush is not a king and you are not a prima dona. Try to remember.

Sergeant Fearn,
Thank you for contacting my office with your concern. I take my oath to defend the Constitution very seriously, however, I can only do so within the parameters of my job. In my work I deal solely within the state of Minnesota, mostly with local government entities. I do not have any official contact with President Bush's Administration.
I would recommend that you contact your representatives on the federal level who do have the official capacity, through congress, to communicate with the President's Administration. You can contact Senators Coleman and Klobuchar through the following means:
Senator Norm Coleman 2550 University Ave W, Suite 100N St. Paul, MN 55114 Main: 651-645-0323 Fax: 651-645-3110 Toll Free: 800-642-6041
Senator Amy Klobuchar 1 Federal Drive Whipple Federal Building, Suite 298 Fort Snelling, MN 55111 612-727-5220
You can also contact your federal representative. If you do not know who your representative is, you can enter your address into this website to find out:

Sincerely, Rebecca Otto

Mde. Otto,
The Bush administration is ignoring the Constitution of the United States. You took an oath to support and defend that document. What are you doing, if anything, to safeguard the rights guaranteed to persons, to Minnesotans and to Americans under the Constitution?
