Wonder if the oil spill will affect Landrieu?

She's always been gung-ho for offshore drilling.

"Having accepted more than $530,000 from the oil and gas industry, Landrieu routinely votes in favor of oil company profits. In 2003, 2005, and 2007, Sen. Landrieu voted to give billions in tax breaks and subsidies to the oil industry in spite of that industry’s record making profits. (Roll Call #456, H.R. 6, November 21, 2003; Roll Call #332, S. 2020 Amendment 2609, November 17, 2005; Roll Call #425, H.R. 6, December 13, 2007."

3. Reading this stuff is eerie

"Landrieu has emerged as one of the Senate’s more centrist members, showing a willingness to break with Democratic Party orthodoxy when she finds it necessary. To that end, she’s a strong supporter of both the death penalty and the expansion of U.S. off-shore oil drilling.

During her second term, hurricane recovery became Landrieu’s biggest issue. Her state bore the brunt of hurricanes Katrina and Rita and Landrieu focused on bringing federal money to Louisiana to help it rebuild and on holding accountable those responsible for the government’s poor response. She has been especially outspoken about the need to reform the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “to insure the nation’s disaster response arm is speedy and effective the next time a disaster strikes the United States, be it natural or manmade.” Official Biography

"As an advocate for the oil industry operating out of her state, Landrieu has been called the "the most-fervent pro-drilling Democrat in the Senate." But her efforts in this area have also landed her on the League of Conservation Voters'Dirty Dozen" list"

5. Vitter's a "Drill Baby Drill" Guy too

"Vitter's amendment also allows new areas to begin production offshore when the governor of a coastal state and that state's legislature petitions the secretary of the interior for permission to begin leasing within that state's outer continental shelf.

"The trigger allows for revenue sharing for new areas of offshore production, which, in turn, is good news for Louisiana's economy," Vitter said. "The situations we currently face as a state and as a nation call for bold action and real solutions. This amendment will have a highly positive effect for Louisiana in particular, strengthening our state's economy while helping reduce gas prices and reduce our dependence on foreign oil companies and countries."

6. And then there's Jindal
"In a bid to align himself with President George W. Bush, Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal noted his support of the President’s support for offshore drilling. The Louisiana governor also put forth a bill aimed at eliminating the Federal Moratorium on Offshore Drilling.

As reported by the Economic Times:

The Governor of oil-rich Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, welcomed Bush's announcement.

"Louisiana produces 30 percent to 40 percent of the nation's oil and gas off our coast. It is certainly good for our economy ... It is also good for the nation," he told Fox News.

"We're sending tens of billions of dollars overseas, often to countries who are not friendly to us ... this is one of the reasons we've got such a large trade deficit," the Indian-American governor said.

In 2006, Jindal sponsored the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act (H.R. 4761), a bill to eliminate the moratorium on offshore oil and gas drilling over the U.S. outer continental shelf."
