Topless march outrages some
FARMINGTON -- With tensions already running high about a topless march planned for Friday, conservative activist Michael Heath on Tuesday ratcheted up criticism by calling public nudity "the most objectionable feature of homosexual rights marches."

Heath, a China resident and founder of the American Family Association of Maine, said he has filed a public-records request with the University of Maine at Farmington seeking information on the university's financial support of a recent awards banquet for the gender-rights group EqualityMaine.

The half-mile march, scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Meetinghouse Park, is being organized by Andrea Simoneau, 22, of Brooks, a UMF senior. The event is based on a similar topless march Simoneau attended recently in Portland. Demonstrators opposing the march are expected to turn out, as well.

Heath said he draws a connection between the upcoming march in Farmington and his records request because "the promotion and presentation of public nudity is a staple of the homosexual rights movement." Heath's recently founded organization is a chapter of the Mississippi-based American Family Association.

Huh?

What else can they blame on "the gay?"

or tutu-wearing fairies according to them. That doesn't sound much like nudity to me.

Also, I didn't realize that nudity was invented by gay people.

Does that mean we're ALL born gay?

12. You might want to rethink that...
seems like more often than not, the types that embrace and engage in public nudity are the ones least likely you, I (or anyone else), would want to see au naturel.

:scared:

Then again... if you're into that kind of thing, well... whatever.

16. I saw the headline and thought "Portland, Oregon"....
...so I wasn't surprised to see it in the article, but I'm guessing that's Portland, Maine. Nudity is a pretty standard political expression here, good to see it on the other coast.

21. How does nudity equate to the homosexual rights movement?
So when Mr. Heath gets naked to take a shower, he's supporting the homosexual rights movement.

Unless he's like Ned Flanders and showers in shorts. That wouldn't surprise me one bit.

28. You know how I know you're gay, Mr. Heath?
1) You not only have no interest in seeing naked boobies, but you are actively campaigning to keep other people from seeing them as well.

2) You are much, much more obsessed with homosexuality than any out-of-the-closet gay person that I know. Or any straight guy that I know, for that matter.

30. That's the most hilarious thing about anti-gay conservatives -
Ever notice that when they describe gay sex, it's in such graphic and almost gory detail . . . almost as if they witnessed hours and hours of it firsthand? Pornographers aren't even that specific.

They also act like the weirdest S&M fetish is commonplace "in that world", and they go on to describe those. Some acts even sound like they made them up on the spot.

like abortion rights, or violence against women. Or support/enforcement of the recent hospital visitation anti-discrimination rules signed by Obama.

Sorry, but I hate this kind of thing.... it does nothing for any real crisis issue, and makes women the butt of further sexualized, trivializing jokes. Like we fucking need that.

I fucking hate it when women make "women's issues" seem like a big fucking guffaw and fodder for late-night testosterone talk-show jokes; with friends like that......

because we all know what media will focus on when faced with a decision between reporting, for example, the passage of the anti-woman forced-pregnancy laws in OK and Fla. or titstitstitstitstits.

flame me if you must.

39. YES!! EX-FUCKING-ACTLY!!!!!!!!
GOd, this makes me so angry, I could fucking explode!!!!

Goddammit. GOD FUCKING DAMMMMMITTTT!!! The only way women get attention is if they show tits or ass.

fucking goddammit. Where I work, the Women's Center did ZERO for Women's History Month!!! Nothing empowering, like posters naming various women who have DONE something, contributed to the world, made a difference. The only events they seem to sponsor are Take Back the Night, an annual anti-violence Against Women march which they seem to do poorly, The Vagina Monologues (need to call attention to our twats in order to get heard?), and Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

I see only victimhood and pro-mommyism there, but nothing emphasizing the exceptional members of our gender who contribute great things to society.

dammit, I've gotta work up the nerve to go talk to the director.....

i will show them... those religious repressing us. strip down. wow. that did it. made it onto cnn and the likes with a few girls, flashing cleavage and 30 men taking pictures. could it be any more stupid.

a religion, calling out women, for mens behavior. and men over here acting like asses. and women showing tits.... resolved what?

not a single intelligent person, man or woman, intellectually challenge religion and the submissive and unequal and down right stupid conclusions and harmful behaviors those attitudes inflict on us as a society and women as a whole.

Edited on Fri Apr-30-10 09:09 AM by BlancheSplanchnik
Showing tits and ass....the only way we seem to get noticed, as you pointed out.

The result is, many women try to get a feeling of control in their lives through the one avenue they see open to them -- sexuality -- which is self-defeating and diminishes us all.

Because female role models of real accomplishment are consistently ignored, we ALL live our lives with a deep impression that women do and contribute very little, that there are no exceptional individuals, aside from the exceptionally beautiful.

This is harmful to women. Very damaging.
