An invalid who shit his pants, as the queen reacts with disgust.

14. I think that was the Queen Mother in WWII
not the current Queen. This one was preteen or teen in WWII.

18. I didn't know if this one did anything special in WWII
she may well have been a wonderful inspiration. I just know that the Queen Mum was particularly loved for her leadership in WWII.
Actually, I don't know cause before my time. But I've read that was the source of the admiration for Queen Mum.

23. Wikipedia says....
In 1945, Princess Elizabeth convinced her father that she should be allowed to contribute directly to the war effort. She joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service, where she was known as No 230873 Second Subaltern Elizabeth Windsor, and was trained as a driver.

It further says that she was the first member of the royal family -- and certainly the first female -- to serve in the regular armed forces.

There are pictures of her standing over a truck engine and I'll bet she still knows exactly how to fix a truck.

22. She did her bit in WWII...
"In 1945, Princess Elizabeth convinced her father that she should be allowed to contribute directly to the war effort. She joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service, where she was known as No 230873 Second Subaltern Elizabeth Windsor, and was trained as a driver. This training was the first time she had been taught together with other students. It is said that she greatly enjoyed this and that this experience led her to send her own children to school rather than have them educated at home. She was the first, and so far only, female member of the royal family to actually serve in the armed forces...though other royal women have been given honorary ranks. During the VE Day celebrations in London, she and her sister dressed in ordinary clothing and slipped into the crowd secretly to celebrate with everyone." -wiki

Considering the job itself...I think she does it well.

24. George VI and the whole family tried to do their part during WW2.
Edited on Fri May-04-07 04:45 PM by roamer65
George and the Queen Mum would go out to comfort bombing victims on a regular basis. He and the family refused to leave the UK. He felt his place was among the people, especially in their hour of need. Brook is correct on what QE2 did during the war. She's a gutsy lady. Even during the assassination attempt in 1981, she only slightly flinched at the first sound of shots.

11. She's a unique human being
Raised specifically for the job she holds, and constantly at odds with her human nature.

I've always admired her. I'm betting she isn't pleased at all with how her country has supported our lunatics in this mess.

21. Actually she wasn't especially "raised" for the job.
She was fairly far down the line of procession.

I don't have the details right at hand, but the incident where the "heir apparent" gave up the throne to marry his American mistress comes into play as well as the untimely death of Liz2's father I think.

Of course, anyone in that hierarchy is raised with impeccable manners, so in that case you're correct.

28. Yep, I think the Duke of Windsor gave up his place and
the throne went to his brother George, E-II's father. And I think he died when she was relatively young. She made an early entry to the throne, IIR History right.

26. Funny story (kind of) relating to that...
So, earlier today The Queen came to visit my college (William & Mary), and my friends and I went to see her. After the main part of the ceremony, Her Majesty went inside the Wren Building to greet selected guests, and on the video screens they had set up outside you could see her talking to this one man who looked a bit like Dick Cheney. We were all trying to figure out if it was him, and the guy behind me must've overheard us asking each other because he said, "Nah, that's not Cheney - he doesn't look evil enough." :) I laughed and turned around, and he said something to the effect of "oh, sorry...did I just say that out loud?" I smiled and told him not to worry and that I was totally with him on that one, and we had a laugh about it. It was pretty great. :)

35. Queen Elizabeth is a fine queen and she did her part during the war.
When in England a couple of summers ago, I went to a palace where there was a small display of her war uniforms and info on what she did. It was not an ostentatious display, just simple history. Please let up on Prince Charles. He is one of the most dedicated environmentalists in the world, which puts him on top of my good list. Remember that he was in love with Camilla before the arranged marriage with Diana. He should be cut a little slack for doing his duty as someone else saw it. I hope that the queen lives a long life, but please know that when Charles becomes king, he will be a force for change in the environmental realm.

36. The queen is probably literate as all hell
especially compared to the philistines who have power here. I'm sure she has problems suffering these fools. They probably can't even tell the difference between a Shakespeare quote and a passage from the King James Bible. We are ruled by a bunch of goombahs with 'honorary' degrees from second-rate universities. Poor Liz. Love the pic tho. Says it all.
