Fargo resident wants Conrad recalled

A politically motivated desire by some North Dakotans to recall Sen. Kent Conrad has led state officials to weigh if a recall process is even possible under existing law.

Fargo legislator Blair Thoreson submitted a request this week seeking Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem’s opinion on whether North Dakota law allows for the recall of an elected federal official, such as a U.S. senator.

Thoreson’s request comes on behalf of Fargo resident Joseph Wells, who recently formed a committee to pursue the recall measure.

Wells said he plans to submit a draft petition soon to the secretary of state seeking the recall of Conrad because of “several issues that (Conrad) has voted on and not followed the will of the people of North Dakota,” including a vote in favor of health care reform.

Conrad does need to be recalled because of his sabotaging the 'Public Option' of the 'Health Care Reform' bill, but not because he eventually voted for it.

If there was a bad politician in office, recall him. If enough voters agree then what are you going to tell the voters. No?

What if there was a Republican you did not like. Wouldn't you want to recall him?

If the citizens of North Dakota think he is such a "bad politician", why did they keep re-electing him over a span of 23 years??? This "recall" is nothing but sour grapes, not "Democracy in action."

All recall votes are negative in nature. No politician is recalled because he is a nice guy.

So call it what you will, sour grapes, hate, whatever . . .

All I see is American's exercising their legal rights. Let Democracy work it's magic. If voters are feed up with the Senator, he is fired. If the voters still like the Senator, he will survive the recall vote.

Either way, the voters get what they want.
