Poor Louisiana.
It's turning into our coal mine canary, or sentinel chicken. It was the way that Bush handled New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina that people opened their eyes to realize that the Emperor wore no clothes. And now with the oil spill, it's becoming a clear warning of the foolishness of off-shore drilling. A warning that should never have happened if we were a nation of conceptual thinkers.

The history books will thank you in the long run, Louisiana. I'll thank you today for this sacrifice. Wish it was unnecessary, but our leadership is very crisis oriented. We push things until they break. Has been that way as long as I can remember.

1. All the destruction, the loss to wildlife, the suffering...
the long term consequences, the toxicities, the ruin of so many--loss of oyster beds and all the other gulf fishing. This is not going to be like Alaska where Exxon was able to move past the destruction because the rest of the country had. This is going to be an unfolding story for years or even decades. Damn it all.

5. Heartbreaking. Has the "Ragin' Cajin" had anything to say about this?
I bet his wife is a "drill baby drill" gal for sure - maybe he is, too.
