Should Puerto Rico become the 51st state. This is fun. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2503842/posts

1. But what about Homelandia? |
|
That's the state of mind (fear) that the Republicon FreepBaggers have been trying to impose on America for the last 10 years. 'Homelandia' is kool with them, for they luvs them a fear based state of control...and obviously disdain democracy and the USA.

2. Freepers helped kill D.C.'s right to a vote in Congress. |
|
So Puerto Rico is right out.

3. Puerto Rico doesn't want to be a state! |
|
Every time this comes up for a vote, it's defeated. Guess the Freepers don't know that.

4. Can we replace Alaska? |
|
Give it back to Russia perhaps? We'll save a lot money on upgrading our flags.

5. What they should be freaking out about is how all those Hispanics immigrate freely to the US |
|
without any "border control". And they've been doing it for over a hundred years. ;)
If the freepers ever thought about it (I know, mutually exclusive), they would want Puerto Rico to become an independent country. That way they could close the border with those now "foreigners" and stop that flow of Hispanic immigrants, too.
I can see why they wouldn't want PR to become a state - 2 new Democratic Hispanic Senators and a few more similar Representatives. They don't have to worry. Both statehood and independence lose every time Puerto Ricans vote on it.

in the early 60's. I think the term 'white flight' was started there ;) Town was predominantely Jewish and Eastern European with I think about 5 Portuguese of which I am one. Then there was a huge influx of Puerto Ricans leaving NYC. Kinda went 'West Side Story' for a bit.
The nice section of town near the Raritan River had some beautiful old victorians owned by lawyers, doctors and shop owners. Couldn't sell so they turned them into apartments.
The town did go to hell for a while but, as Puerto Ricans assimilated and went to college the town is now very nice. With... Puerto Rican lawyers, doctors, and shop owners and a PR friend who I grew up with who is now a County Judge. They have rehab'd those old vic's to their former glory - if not better.
