China: Diplomat beaten, injured by Houston police
China: Diplomat beaten, injured by Houston police

DALLAS – Three Houston police officers have been restricted to desk duty after they followed a Chinese diplomat into the parking garage of the Chinese Consulate, arrested the man and injured him, the Houston mayor said.

Mayor Annise Parker said in a statement that the officers' duties will remain limited pending an investigation into how Chinese diplomat Yu Boren was injured last Saturday.

Officials in China's Foreign Ministry released a statement Friday saying police harassed and beat a deputy consul-general while he was driving to the consulate. The statement said a family member also was involved, but did not say if that person was injured.

The consulate in Houston did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press. Houston police and the U.S. State Department are investigating the incident.

2. I haven't heard either side of the incident, but I have to say it seems to me that

we are either -

not giving complete or proprer training
or
the police are getting top down instructions to break their rules

... when we consider all the police abusses we have witnessed in just the last two years.

Supposedly, they have come up with a policy that the police can't carry their taser and gun on the same hip, but that is the only thing that I have heard that is an improvment.

I think there is something in their psyche that says they have approval and will get away with their abuses.

(I'm not saying that the diplomat was abused - we know nothing so far - this is just a general feeling about the arrogance of some police against the people of this country and visitng this country. especially human beings who come here illegally - to work and be with family.)

3. Imagine if Chinese police did this to a US diplomat.
There would be sound and fury both right and "left."

8. It would be all over Sarah Palin's Twitter page: "Bomb China!" Or maybe
Sarah would suggest we toss all of our fine china into the streets.

5. Someone better let the Houston Police Department know about diplomatic
immunity...much less not beating up a diplomat.

7. I guess that Houston police officer decided to implement AZ's new law.
The diplomat couldn't provide the right papers fast enough, so it was Fight Time! Why bother with the hassle of an arrest and deportation? :sarcasm:
