Wildlife Cleanup Coordination Efforts?
Have you heard anything about coordination of the wildlife cleanup efforts? I know Louisiana has a spill cleanup coordination office, but I thought you guys might have heard of more specifics.

1. From my state...Car is in shop getting shocks so I can head down there.
As the miles of boom were deployed around the Alabama coastline, hundreds of people from across the country offered their services for potential oil spill cleanup efforts along the shores, local volunteer groups said Wednesday.

The Alabama Coastal Foundation has received calls from New York to California, according to Bethany Kraft, executive director of the group.

She was compiling a database of people to contact when cleanup efforts begin.

Dozens of marine biologists and graduate students flocked to the water Thursday to collect samples of water and marine life. The samples will be used as a baseline to compare the effects of the oil spill on coastal marine life.

Groups from the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, the University of South Alabama's Marine Sciences program and the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs took part.

2. Call the louisiana dept of fish and game
They may have info on local wildlife rescue groups that one can call. Yes they'll need more volunteers eventually but more imediately these wildlife rescue groups are going to need money=supplies.

Gloves, hand soaps, laundry soaps, towels, buckets/tubs, possibly some kind of large tents for recovering critters. Food and water for people and animals and birds.

Contact any local zoos to see if they're involved in any coordinating efforts.

8. My biologist SO has calls out to other biologist friends
in the gulf to see if there is anything he/we can do to help. We're in So. Cal. but he did mention the possibility of going down to the gulf if need be. As of yet he hasn't heard back from anyone since no doubt they're very busy in the field right now collecting samples and analyzing the situation and figuring out a game plan. And this is a very bad one. :-(

4. well...
the Mississippi state director of emergency response said that state agencies are prepared for hurricanes but not oil spills. If you're a Gulf state... maybe you should be prepared.
