|
Edited on Fri Apr-30-10 01:59 PM by apples and oranges
 BATON ROUGE -- Persons who have have been qualified to carry concealed weapons should be able to keep them strapped on in a church or temple as a way to enhance security, a House committee said today. http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2010/04/house_committee_gives_its_bles.html

1. Isn't it up to the Church or Synagogue or Mosque or whatever to decide? |
|
Does the state permit concealed carry everywhere but churches/etc.? If so that would seem to violate separation of church and state - singling out religious sites in the law...

11. The article says nothing about mosques. |
|
Church and temple, only. This is America, sir, and we don't mix guns and mosques.

2. this will probably get deleted for being insensitive |

but not before I cross post to my other favorite blogs
but what a bunch of hayseed nutbags. Paranoid psychotic people are the very LAST people I want carrying guns around jumpin' out of their skeert little skins at every backfiring muffler. In charch!
On the other hand there aren't a lot of them could outrun a box turtle so maybe they need all the help they can get, plus a gift card to Big & Fat Holsters.
Obsessed. Tell me it isn't whackadoodle crazy to think about nothing but guns all the time and to have one strapped to your ass every waking second.

I didn't know "security" was a pressing issue in places of worship. Are the collection plates coming up short?

5. There was the guy who shot up a UU church (I think in TN?) recently. |
|
And by "recently" I mean within the past year or so. I'm more concerned that religious sites appear to be exempted from LA's CCW law in the first place. It's perfectly fine for the legislature to say "CCW is OK except in schools," but when they single out religious sites for special treatment that appears awfully churchey-statey.

a hard enough time come November, with jobs and the economy, do we really need to add fear of guns and individual rights to the mix?
