Freeper response to oil spill: Unbelievable
You'd think there would be some calamity that all humans can agree: this is a bad thing. Going through the postings to see how the right wing mind works I saw exactly one message that acknowledged it as a catastrophe. The rest, in order of popularity:

Number 1 by a huge margin. It was engineered by Obama/environmentalists to further an anti-American, socialist green agenda
Number 2. That this happens so rarely demonstrates what a good safety record the drilling industry has
Number 3. Liberal press not blaming Obama like they did Bush with Hurricane Katrina
Number 4. Excessive govt regulation didn't prevent it, demonstrating how useless and counter productive regulation is (I kid you not)
Number 5. Obama engineered it at the behest of his islamic oil-producing masters
Number 6. Obama deliberately waited past the point when something could be done to make the disaster more spectacular and thus fulfill anti-American, socialist green agenda
Number 7. Demonstrates how much we need more land drilling like ANWR (drill, baby, drill!)
Number 8. Not nearly as bad as Exxon Valdez. There the liberal press goes again, blowing things out of proportion

Didn't stay long enough to read about how Britain's socialized medicine was to blame but am pretty certain it's among the responses.

1. Number 3 is laughable considering that the government has
been involved since the beginning!

Number 8 is an idiot, not realizing there is a spikot thousands of feet down that is wide open.

regulated because his boy EEE Haaaa fake Texan said we didn't need to regulate BP who were already self regulated. Tripe.

3. So stupid.. this spill started a while ago.. they tried to contain the news on it
for the first week or so.. it just got too out of hand. I saw it in enviro news.. but no where else for a good little bit... When they started burning it, they couldn't really hide the smell factor and its spread and dumping/ pumping still.

5. There is ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUE on which we can agree. Those fools
are complete idiots that will go against all reason and logic simply because our side takes the reasonable/common-sense position. The complete anti-social just pure mean programming these people have submitted themselves to is profoundly astounding.

6. don't forget something like "Haw haw, the softhearted PETArds are weeping over the dying wildlife
it's called natural selection!!!!111"

or something like that: they have zero empathy or connection skills (which is why they can be libertarians, who believe that the only valid social ties are contractual ones)

14. they actually believe this: to them, people who recycle, adopt shelter dogs, spring weasels from
fur farms, or reintroduce wolves aren't doing it for the forests, dogs, weasels, or wolves: they're doing it to put on airs, or because they're psychologically ill, or not adult, or to put one over their neighbors

likewise, they see environmental regulations as not only unnecessary (since everything will last forever, or deserves to go extinct if it dies out) but as part of a plot to a) destroy capitalism, b) destroy freedom, and/or c) "depopulate" Earth. This is the message that's constantly sent out by Paul Driessen, Limbaugh, Palin, Nick Nichols, Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer, Janice Rogers, John Berlau, Richard Berman, John Stossel, Kent Courtney, Patti Strand, and St. Norman Borlaug.

10. Now, give it another 2 weeks and . . .
they'll be saying that the reason the shrimp cocktail they had at Red Lobster last night was double the cost it was last month is because socialists don't want them to eat shrimp.

The whole environmental catastrophe caused by Halliburton aspect will fly right by them.

11. Actually that should be Number 9
Any reason to blame Halliburton. That was there more than a few times.

12. I heard the first one from someone myself.
My comment/thought was that if that was the case, then the owner of the rig would for sure be mentioning that. They wouldn't be keeping it quiet. He said "No, they wouldn't say anything". I asked why and he didn't have an answer.

Another funny thing is that this conversation took place while we were driving and he was listening to some right-wing talk radio channel on XM. The guy he was listening to was by far the biggest fucking idiot I've ever heard. Like, the guy was making the most ridiculous arguments. In fact, some conservatives even called up and challenged the guy on the radio about some of the shit he said and he would just dance around anything they pointed out. Anyway, one of the things that really got me was that the guy was like 'The oil came from the earth, it's "terraferma", therefore the spillage cannot be all that bad for the planet. We should just leave it alone and not worry about it. blah blah the coast guard is wasting tax dollar money on this blah blah"... That's pretty much the jist of what he said... Like, wtf? I seriously think the right is getting more and more stupid and ridiculous, I don't recall such stupidity in the past (I grew up in a conservative-ish home)... I dunno, maybe my views are just different now and they have always been that stupid...

13. The idiots don't get that nobody blamed Bush FOR Katrina, we blamed him for the response
Or rather lack of response. Obama has been on top of this from the start.
