La. governor: Oil efforts ‘not effective’
Best wishes for those directly affected by this man-made catastrophe...and the rest of us too, who will pay for it in various ways for many years to come.

"ROBERT, La. - As oil from the massive leak in the Gulf of Mexico started to ooze into coastal wetlands along Louisiana, the state's governor said cleanup efforts were "not effective" and Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano urged BP to deploy even more resources.

"I'm certainly worried that the booms as currently deployed are not effective," Gov. Bobby Jindal said at a news conference with federal and BP officials. "The areas that will be impacted first are critical and fragile coastal sites. These next few days are critical."

Napolitano said the Obama administration "will continue to push BP to engage in the strongest possible response."

<snip>

The first oil-coated bird found by crews was cleaned up Friday. Workers with Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, which is based in Delaware, used Dawn blue dishwashing soap to scrub the oil off the young Northern Gannet. The detergent is commonly used to clean animals..."

1. Right. And I would urge BP and the state & local officials to step it up
Because having the federal government get involved would be socialism.

2. I think now is the perfect time to ask all these ReTHUG governors
what they want from the Federal government. You cannot attack the Federal government, attack stimulus plans and scream about big government take overs and then expect the said Federal government to assume responsibility for your beloved big oil corporations' negligence.

Make up your fucking mind Bobby Wannabee.

4. I want a cleanup tax .
Preferably on the oil companies but we know they'll just pass it on to us. But let's not go into debt for this. Where's that senator (?) who wanted everything paid for? Let's get him in on this.

6. May I add. You cannot complain about taxes all the time
and then expect the money for emergency recovery actions to be there when you need them.

It just does not work that way.

7. 100% correct
Time for a serious discussion - what exactly is the role of the Federal government and what do citizens want from them.

10. They ARE the experts
At being "not effective".

11. They only know to oppose
and when they're in power their role is to loot government.

3. Imagine if these issues had punishable jail sentences attatched to them...
CEO's would make sure nothing spilled ever.. instead they employ an army of lawyers to tie everything up for years in litigation.
