Eurocentrism Reigns Supreme: Arizona Bans Ethnic Studies


States that the Legislature finds and declares that public school pupils should be taught to treat and value each other as individuals and not be taught to resent or hate other races or classes of people.

Provisions

States that the Legislature finds and declares that public school pupils should be taught to treat and value each other as individuals and not be taught to resent or hate other races or classes of people.

Prohibits a school district or charter school from including in its program of instruction any courses or classes that:

Promote the overthrow of the United States government.

Promote resentment toward a race or class of people.

Are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group.

Advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.

States that if the SBE determines that a school district or charter school is offering a course that violates this act, the SBE must direct the Superintendent of Public Instruction (Superintendent) to notify the school district or charter school that it is in violation. ...........(more)

4. I don't see why any class would be designed to be attended by a particular race.
Why can't a white person be in an African American studies class? Or a man enroll in a womens studies Class?

And I don't think a class should promote solidarity to a subset of the public.

If classes do exist with the expectation that only race will attend I do find that appalling. I swear Hawaiian studies was a pretty popular class at the local university. And our QB of the football team took Samoan so he could communicate with his linemen.

Promoting understanding is great. It should not be aimed to attract only one group.

Teaching about slavery would be unlawful? Teaching about the atrocities of terrorists groups such as the KKK would be unlawful? Teaching about the civil rights struggle of MLK would be unlawful? Teaching about Japanese concentration "internment" camps and Native "reservations" would be unlawful? And the list goes on and on and on.

So what we have here is an example of state sponsored racism and denial of history. That's what this is all about and how most unfortunate. A shining example of "freedom"?

Are these people nuts? Are they seriously saying its unlawful to teach the Decleration of Independents to our children?

7. It seems that they will be rearing one of the most insular and bigoted generation
this side of the Mason-Dixon line. If we had problems in the sixties with folks who openly vented their racism without any moral checks in place, just wait until these kids end up getting in power positions not only within the state but across the country.

The RNC seriously wants an idiocracy so that their power grab will be easy and painless. And once it happens, no one will protest the crap they pass.
