Feds arrests 596 in massive operation in southeast U.S.

Thirty-four of the 596 people arrested in the southeast U.S. during a recent crackdown of "criminal aliens" called Operation Cross Check were captured in Central Florida, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The federal agency said the three-day crackdown was the biggest operation targeting "at-large criminal aliens ever carried out by ICE in the region,'' the agency said in a statement.

ICE agents worked with a variety of local law-enforcement agencies to arrest the foreign nationals with criminal records, the statement noted.

There were 25 arrests in Orlando, ICE said. Two of those were gang members. Other arrests in Central Florida include one each in Kissimmee and Eustis; two each in Ocoee and Altamonte Springs and three in DeLand.
