8. lol.
I still don't believe the GOP will necessarily take over either house of Congress, but the idea that they'll be routed for the third election cycle in a row is just silly. Especially in the House. Given the realities of gerrymandered congressional districts, the Dems have expanded about as far as they can there.

36. Not just gerrymandered districts, but voting machines.
The Dems would have a much wider margin in both houses if the voting machines had not corrupted the whole democratic process.

Saxby Chambliss wouldn't be in the Senate e.g., Cleland would be, and there are easily 4 or 5 more R's that wd be D's in Congress if the vote had been counted correctly.

Of course, there's no way to prove it one way or the other. That's the whole point: when the vote is counted in total secrecy without verification, a real democracy is impossible.

You can always have a fake, faith-based democracy. The US is not the only country with a democracy like that. Many countries have tried it before and many will try it in the future.

It's like they can't help themselves. Every time they play to the least common denominators of their party, they alienate the middle and eventually it costs them dearly.

19. They are not acting. I believe they are in deep shit for November, and still
digging their hole...They seem to think the reason people don't like them is because they are not crazy enough, so the kick out people like Crist who could almost pass for normal humans. I have been saying the GOP will lose in November for months now, and I believe it will be more apparent as the election gets closer...polls mean nothing till the election is over.

30. (the GOP) seem to think the reason people don't like them is because they are not crazy enough
How true!

The Tea Party is a tiny portion of the population, who may not even vote since clearly many are the "they're all crooks!" types. The most likely Tea Party effect will be splitting the GOP vote.

These polls that you see are often phrased like this: "Are you satisfied with the current Government?". That sort of open-ended question will get a negative response from just about everyone.

I think we are witnessing one of the biggest spins in history with all this talk of GOP mid-term victory.

The only thing that could kill us is if Dems don't vote. I think the Tea Party etc. will be a motivating factor in that area.

11. I have to say this blowback from Arizona has them scared shitless.
If you listened to their comments on proposed immigration reform in Congress, it's obvious. They're accusing Obama of making a political issue out of immigration, and driving hispanics to the polls. (no, really).

They thought they were looking at a landslide a couple of weeks ago, and now that's slipping away.

48. Not just the Arizona blowback...
I'm betting the oil rig mess in the Gulf is going to blow up in their faces, too. They are the "drill, baby, drill" party, and look how well that is working out. Then, there is their resistance to banking/Wall St. reform. As long as the Dems keep reminding folks of these things, they shouldn't should not be losing any seats.

12. GOP is gonna loose big
why do you think CNN is s**tting their collective pants by posting every chance they get that the republicans are going to win, going to win. Because they know they don't have a snowballs chance in Hades and they want to convince the Democrats consisting of the YOUNG PEOPLE, AFRICAN AMERICAN, LATINOS AND WOMEN (As our president said) to stay away from the polls. You can look over Fox because we all know that they are the
24/7 republican infomercial channel. And all they do is spew lie after lie after lie in favor of republicans. I think what would really help is for each Democrat call a press conference any time the republicans do their obstruct obstruct thingy....and make it happen every every time.

We'll lose 5+ Senate seats, and 10+ House seats.

Real Clear Politics, a source I trust, has it at 8 losses in the Senate: Arizona, Delaware, Indiana, Nevada, North Dakota and Pennsylvania, + two of the six toss-ups races.

I'd like to think you are right about this, but yours is the first assessment I've heard that leans in this direction. Mostly what I've heard from pollsters and other informed people, is that the Republicans will most likely pick some seats up in both chambers, but the healthcare bill and Obama's reasonably good approval will help temper the losses. Here is an example of one such analysis:

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2010/04/senate-forecast-update-little-chance-of.html

If you have some figures to back up your post I'd love to see them. Otherwise I think you are engaging in wishful thinking.

50. 1998!
Actually I've posted along these lines before. The OP doesn't have "official" figures to back it up, because the conventional wisdom is Dems will lose seats because it's a historical trend for offyear elections for the party in power, and the "strength" of the Tea Party, blah blah.

EXACTLY the same shit happened in 1998. Pundits and pollsters spent the year predicting, with certainty, that Repubs would widen their margins as a repudiation of Clinton. EXACTLY the opposite happened....Repubs LOST seats, and the conclusion was that the public was fed up with the Repubs' handling of the impeachment, shutting down the government over a tantrum, and so on.

We have a few months to go, but Dems are finally fighting back, Repubs are getting crazier by the day, and the Tea Party has always been a small minority that happens to get coverage because crazy makes for good television.

I don't think this is wishful thinking. For me, it's deja vu. There's a precedent:

1998.

51. I might agree if I believed the votes were actually counted fairly.
But the GOP playbook includes denial of the vote. Turnout is typically low in midterms anyway, so if turnout is lower than "expected," the media won't pay too much attention.

We know there won't be any Democrats elected in Arizona, for example.
