I wish people would quit referring to the law as the Immigration Law |
|
because, from what i understand, any American can be stopped for no reason, and asked to show their papers.
It's a misguided stupid law that will affect Americans.
Also, another thing that bothers me, couldn't it be used to just harass people for no real reason at all, such as the police might not like the fact that you are standing outside a loud live music club (just to use a random example drawing on my personal experience from "back in the day").

1. Targeted Justice is what you are talking about. |
|
Since enforcement is discretionary, it is not a law about justice, but about moving decisions to the choice of those that are in the role of enforcing justice.
A law like probable cause, has little discretion, since an officer if honest, always has a reason to check ID based on some actions. If it is just pick someone and be able to ask for ID, then it can not be done for everyone, so it becomes who they want to ask.
That system allows for many issues to creep into justice.

|
i think you are right though. this isn't about people here illegally so much as citizens and our right to noyt be arbitrarily stopped and have to prove we are citizens.
