FYI: U.S. Last Fish Cannery just went Out of Business. |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-30-10 06:21 PM by Mike 03
I almost posted this several times, but got cold feet that people would laugh at it, but am reposting it tonight.
The last U.S. based cannery of seafood, Stinson, just went out of business, and just speaking for myself, I am buying up as much of this stuff as I can for the following reaons:
1. It is cheap. 2. It is healthy. 3. It won't be possible to get it after it runs out. 4. It has a very long shelf life compared to other canned foods.
I know there are some DUers like me who are planning for a bleak future, and I think that canned seafood is a helpful additive.
For what it is worth, I am letting you know our very last cannery is out of business, and what you see on the shelf is what you get.

2. Not that I eat such things, but what you are saying is not correct |

Stinson was the last sardine cannery in the US, not the last cannery. We have lots of them. Some of the largest in the world are in Alaska, for example. So, yes, Stinson did close, and that is a sad thing. But they were not our only cannery, nor are sardines are only fishery.

4. That's the last sardine cannery. |
|
Lots of canneries in Alaska, IIRC. That's still technically U.S.

microcanneries turn out at least 17 private labels of canned albacore. An example would be Chuck's Seafood in Charleston,five-member canning crew, 2,500 pounds of albacore a day.
