Sheriff Joe Calls for CA Boycott

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, self-proclaimed "Toughest Sheriff in America" says Californians who want to boycott Arizona should MYOB. "Maybe they oughta worry about their own state. Keep their nose out of Arizona. We know what we're dong here," said Arpaio.

"I don't understand why California has such a big problem. Maybe we should boycott California because there's so many illegal aliens and crime there," Arpaio.

Maricopa County's sheriff made the comments just hours after his deputies arrested 63 people in a crime sweep in Phoenix. Thirty-nine are suspected to be in the U.S. illegally, but 24 were legal U.S. residents.

Arpaio said the sweep was planned long before the new Arizona law was signed by Gov. Jan Brewer (R) last week. But he says it won't change the way his deputies do their job. He also denies it would result in racial profiling.

"We have never gone on the streets and grabbed people off the streets because they look like they're from another country. We don't do that," said Arpaio. He says his deputies will continue to question people about their immigration status only if they have been stopped or are committing a crime, as is the current federal law.

Arpaio says the new law simply provides an extra "tool" for local police and county authorities, by making it a misdemeanor for people to be in Arizona illegally. They could be jailed for up to 6 months.

"Now if you come across someone here illegally, you can arrest them versus turning them over to the U.S. government," says Arpaio.

Still, Oakland, L.A, New York, Washington D.C. and St. Paul are the latest cities to look at proposals to boycott Arizona, following San Francisco's lead.

Protesters are also petitioning to yank the All-Star game from Phoenix. Phoenix mayor Phil Gordon says his city has already lost business from five canceled conventions.

1. Yeah right Joe just like you do oh wait forgot you don't
Remember your south of the border adventures Joe. How about your going out of state to campaign instead of doing your job here in Arizona. Shut up Joe, just shut the hell up.

3. I'm sure the good people of California will be happy if they don't
have to put up with the likes of Sheriff Joe and his followers coming to their state.

Though I do feel bad for the folks of Arizona....

and audit this @sshole's elections. The other night, I had to go back and remind myself why Maricopa Co. rang bells for me. When we used to trade off posting the election news, after a while you notice that some place names keep coming up, over and over and Maricopa Co. was one of those names.

7. Yes he is and ....
inside sources tell me that significate information is in the hands of the FBI. I was told about some of it but unfortunately due to the fact the information is not for public knowledge without jeopardizing the case, I can't pass it on. I can say however certain figures here are visibly worried and the investigation is comprehensive. I believe Joe could go down on it.

8. worse than that Joe also shows signs his mind is going
Joe has displayed signs that he is not in full control of his mental processes. I have been told he has made some really strange statements to people totally unrelated to anything concerning them. Remember too Joe is 76 almost 77 and the real power is handled by his cheif deputy Dave Hendershott.

12. I hope you are directing that at Arpaio and his type and not all from AZ
If so then let me remind you that many of us here in Arizona are against this fascist pig and we hate his actions. Some of us have even been harrassed by the jerk and want the s.o.b. in his own tent city, but he will go to a federal prison. Please don't judge all of us by Arpaio and we won't judge all of California by your looney tunes.

14. if you can go see 9500 Liberty movie
I think it is one of the best pieces of work on this type law on "illegal immigrants" you could see. It takes place in Prince William County Va. where they passed an ordinance similar to Az 1070. The ordinace went into effect and the results were as you would expect a disaster. The ordinance was amended later taking out the words "probable cause" and strangely enough the action involved good old F.A.I.R. It is so close to what is going on here in Arizona I had to remind myself it was in Va. a few years ago.

This Californian sent money to your election challenger a couple of years ago and will be happily doing it again if someone runs against you again. Maybe I'll convince more people to join me in it too. Keep talking.

28. Did you hear that Arpaio may run for governor of AZ?
As disgusting as that thought is, AZ law would force him to resign as Sherriff to do it. I honestly don't think Arpaio has a chance in hell of ever becoming governor... even as screwed up as AZ is, he couldn't get elected to that office.

29. Like California needs Arizona, we have our own Nazi punks - RW Arizonans need to stop doddering...
And either get with the program, or get their wrinkled asses down to the Snow/Early Bird Special - some of the rest of what is between the lines of what Arpaio says is the Arpaio Family Monument Co. & Crony Based Full Employment Act
