National Security & Oil
Conservatives want oil drilling everywhere in the US and offshore. They believe it would lessen the energy dependence we have on foreign countries. But in the long run wouldn't it be wiser to use other countries' resources before using our own? It would be a better for our national security to always have at our disposal the oil under our feet, saving it, and use other countries' oil first. Because so many products are made from oil I never see an end to its use, but we could drastically reduce our national appetite for it with new, innovative technologies.

But instead of drill baby drill, we need to have a Manhattan Project for renewable energy. We went to the moon in eight years after Kennedy's announcement. Just think of what we could do with our resources if we used them to build wind farms, solar panels, and all the other non-toxic, safe and renewable energy sources. We also need to move ahead on Obama's campaign promise about building an infrastructure so that power can be transferred to all parts of the country. Let the conservatives call it socialism, communism or any other 'ism' they want. We have the majority in congress. We have the White House. We need to stop debating and start doing.

Those who attack any government solution to a problem want us to remain mired in our current dependency on foreign oil. They even attack renewable energy. If conservatives had their way we would still be using horses and buggies as transportation because they would have rejected the automobile.

2. Only partial agreement
It appears that we are using "other countries' resources before using our own" and that's what led us into Iraq and Afghanistan.

I agree with a Manhattan Project effort to break our fossil fuel addiction.
