Arizona Republic editorial mocks logic of wingnut legislator & legislation
See, we aren't all wingnuts! D'Anna is one of the community editors -- the AR are also against SB1070.

Legislator couldn't cash his reality check by John D'Anna

Earth to Cecil . . . That guy you saw getting a wedgie and having his lunch money stolen by CNN's Anderson Cooper the other night was none other than Mesa state Rep. Cecil Ash, R-Pluto.

We'd mock him with a real planet, but he's so far out in space that a demoted dwarf planet seems more apropos.

Ash was on CNN defending his support of the "birther" bill. His logic, if you can call it that, boils down to something like this:

"Even though you can't believe everything you read on the Internets, I voted for something I read on the Internets because I didn't read anything on the Internets that proved it wasn't true."

At least it explains how the Legislature can refuse to ban texting while driving - because we already have laws against reckless driving - but then can make it illegal to be an illegal even though we already have laws against being here illegally.

In any event, you can pretty much bet that any CEO who caught Ash's performance on TV just scratched Arizona off her relocation list.

Which may be why so many Arizona high school grads are taking Sharpies to their diplomas and turning "Arizona" into "Alabama."

1. a small amount of good .... may come from this
Terry Goddard Leads Jan Brewer In Arizona Gov's Race: Hispanic Voters Flocking To Democratic Candidate

http://www.terrygoddard.com/privacy

polls show less than half of Arizonans favor McCain over Rodney (BRC-46%, PPP-49%). Rodney looks even better against J.D. Hayworth: PPP reports that Rodney would beat Hayworth 42-39, and BRC shows Hayworth only garnering 37% against Rodney. PPP also found only 34% of Arizonans think McCain is doing a good job in the U.S. Senate.

Arizonans are speaking out against McCain's willingness to throw Americans under the bus in order to get reelected. They're speaking out against Hayworth's extremist ideology and hateful rhetoric. Everyday, more Arizonans say Rodney Glassman is the right person to represent Arizona values and advocate for Arizona families in Washington, D.C.

2. Yes! I so hope this is the outcome.
McCain has an ad touting a "10 point plan" for immigration reform. How long has he been in the Senate and now he comes up with something? Zonies are finally waking up to the truth about McChangling and I hope he loses to Hayworth. Glassman will have an easier time against Hayworst. I swear Hayworth looks like he's been embalmed.

3. It took the insanity of George W for the Dems to win sweeping majorities in the House & Senate &
gave us a Dem President....

Ya know - Brewer may have just done to our state was Bush did to the country. I'm beginning to look at all of this in a new light.

10. Yeah, that one hurt.
We're about to become #50 in education funding. We have a sales tax hike proposal on the ballot but, if approved, the Speaker of the State House wants to divert the funds that are supposed to go to education to business tax cuts.

11. Really? Where did you hear that? Because everyone I know who's on the fence...
...is citing Arizona's history of diverting funds that were specifically earmarked for education. They just don't believe that Prop 100 will make one damned bit of difference. If what you're saying about the Speaker is verifiable, I'm not voting for it, either. Please tell me where you heard or read that.

12. Several places
this morning in an email from someone who attended the AEA conference last weekend -- she quoted Terry Goddard as saying:

"Goddard told us that House Speaker Adams actually has been trying to use the proceeds of Prop 100, if it passes, for a massive cut for big business. We need to make sure the governor vetoes Adams’ efforts."

This is the only article I could find by doing a quick search -- I know I saw something in the Republic. I did find that Adams lost out on this and it was tabled.

"Opponents of the sales tax hike warn that taxpayers face a double hit: higher sales taxes along with higher property taxes to help pay for the business tax cut.

Klein also says the Legislature would have no choice but to use the estimated $1 billion a year raised by the sales tax increase for schools, health care and public safety. State Sen. Ron Gould and others have said the Legislature could essentially do anything it wanted with the money – spending it on the targeted areas, but cutting money in other areas."
