What would happen if they poured maltodextrin on the oil slick? |
|
Maltodextrin is used in food preparation to make powders from lipids. Like, olive oil powder.
I wonder if this would be an eco-friendly way to treat oil spills?

the first time i added it, i created a small mushroom cloud of whey powder and flax seeds, but i managed to contain it
since then, i just keep my rods cool in a water bath, and the mixture works fine.
just don't leave it in the trunk to get hot
thermonuclear protein shakes. it's what's for dinner

7. We could dunk Dean Kamen in the spill |
|
It might not rid us of the spill by containing then absorbing all the oil, but it would absorb all of Dean Kamen.

But really, I do wonder what would happen. If I had some maltodextrin (and maybe I do now that I think of it) I'd make an oil slick in a bowl of salt water and then sprinkle some md on it and see what happens. Does the glob sink? Does it still float? Curious minds and all that...

but the chemicals they use are well researched.
The problem is the size of the slick, not a lack of research into treatment. Texas A&M and The University of Texas both have professors that have spent a good portion of their lives finding the best methods to clean spills.

Maltodextrin is produced from corn, which we already know we have TONS of. It's biodegradable, safe.
I'm just wondering if the thought occurred to anyone. Besides me, I mean.
