A major pipe bringing water to the Boston area has sprung a "catastrophic" leak and is dumping eight million gallons of water per hour into the Charles River. Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency and issued a "boil-water" order for Boston and dozens of other communities.

"The water is not suitable for drinking. ... All residents in impacted communities should boil drinking water before consuming it," he said at a news conference this afternoon.

1. We'll manage. Looking at the big picture this is an inconvenience at most.

2. I have town water
so this doesn't effect me. In fact my town water is stupidly cheap, I pay under $30/mo.

However, the MWRA despite its cost generally strikes me as having its shit together. Leaks happen. I wonder if the various pipes were stressed in the wake of the recent flooding and ridiculous rainstorms?

4. Lucky you. This entire thing is new for me,but it's better than a large
power failure.

I've been MWRA "forever" and have never had problems.

3. Too bad the only problems we have right now
don't all involve dumping of clean water into water.
