NPR calls Bush out on use of "Democrat" instead of Democratic
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 02:40 PM by Luckyduck
Did anyone hear the interview with Bush on NPR yesterday? The guy interviewing called Bush out on his use of "Democrat" in the SOTU when it was written in his speech as Democratic. Bush was apparently shocked at the question and stumbled all over the place saying he wasn't doing it on purpose...wasn't trying to be like 'nails on a chalkboard'...

I wish I could find the transcript, but you can listen to it online.

3. Here's the transcript and the link for it
MR. WILLIAMS: By the way, in the speech, you spoke about the Democrats. You said, you congratulated the Democrat majority. And I notice your prepared text said Democratic majority. I surely think that you know that for the Democrats, they think when you say Democrat, it's like fingernails on the blackboard. They don't like it. They like you to say Democratic.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Yeah. Well, that was an oversight then. I mean, I'm not trying to needle. Look, I went into the hall saying we can work together and I was very sincere about it. I didn't even know I did it.

MR. WILLIAMS: OK.

PRESIDENT BUSH: And that I did, I didn't mean to be putting fingernails on the board, I meant to be saying why don't we show the American people we can actually work together? There is a lot of politics in Washington – in my judgment, needless politics. And it's almost like, if George Bush is for it, we're against it, and I – and if he's against it, we're for it. And the American people don't like that.

And I'm going to tell you some big issues we need to work on. One is entitlements. Your grandchildren are going to grow up with a Social Security system that is broke unless we do something about it. Now, I understand how hard that is. I mean, it's—But the solution can be done. But it requires a lot of political, you know, capital to be spent. And there is distrust in Washington. I am surprised, frankly, at the amount of distrust that exists in this town. And I'm sorry it's the case, and I'll work hard to try to elevate it. So the idea that somehow I was trying to needle the Democrats, it's just – gosh, it's probably Texas. Who knows what it is. But I'm not that good at pronouncing words anyway, Juan.

When will they wake up and smell the coffee? The American people have already told them to take their plan to loot SS and shove it.

26. Don't forget, Bush listens to his base
and his real base won't be relying on SS for their retirements. They've got money earned from outsourcing their corporations and from bilking their stockholders by hook or crook.

I expect the outcry to the media was far more intense than any mere grumbling from Congress.

6. We should shame all journalists who allow Publican pundits when they do the same
You know, it wouldn't take but a couple of journalists ridiculing those who don't know the name of one of the two major US political parties to make this era of stupidity end. Example:

Publican idiot: "Blah blah blah democrat party blah blah..."

Journalist: "But why should anyone take your point seriously when you don't even know the name of the political party that you are complaining about?"

See, it's that freaking easy.

"If you're so uninformed that you don't know the name of one of the 2 major parties in American politics, your opinion isn't worth listening to."

"Now explain to me how you're going to do your part as a patriotic American to impeach this president."

15. Thom Hartmann ALWAYS calls folks on it
He is usually very polite to his wingnut guests, but he usually stops them immediately when they use Democrat as an adjective, and makes them use the correct name before they are allowed to continue.

20. That's exactly it. The unconscious has more to do with people actions than people realize.
That's why subliminal advertising is so important to corporations. That's why numerous people go to hypnotists to stop smoking and to lose weight. It works for a lot of people.

16. Juan Williams, paid supporter of No Child Left Behind generally kissed Bush's behind
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 04:35 PM by ItsTheMediaStupid
He allowed the same old lie: "Everybody was wrong about weapons of mass destruction."

I wish these so-called journalists would call Bush on this statement. It is simply a lie. Scott Ritter didn't believe it and neither did the other UN arms inspectors, the millions of protesters world-wide or many professionals at the CIA.

The only failure of intelligence was by those who believed the lie.

18. This is the thing that pisses me off like nothing else
God-damned bastards with their "Death Tax" and other assorted bullshit. Now they think they can rename my Democratic Party, do they? Well FUCK them!

Every time I hear "Democrat" party...and I mean every time...somebody gets a nasty phone call or email. The more of us that do it, the less comfortable they will be thinking they can get away with it.

I urge everyone to call them out on this at every opportunity. Also, remind any anchor, pundit, or commentator that saying Democrat when you mean Democratic is unacceptable. Kick their fucking teeth in.
