Unification Church puts Washington Times on market

May 2, 2010

ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON --- Executives at The Washington Times are negotiating to sell the newspaper, which was founded in 1982 and funded by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church.

Nicholas Chiaia, a member of the newspaper's two-person board of directors, confirms the Times is on the market. In a statement, he says executives recently entered into discussions with "a number of parties interested in either purchasing or partnering with the Washington Times."

3. More Fish Wrap Death Throes
It's not if, but when this piece of crap and waste of trees bites the dust. Moon's kids are fighting over daddy's slush fund and aren't interested in running a right wing propaganda rag. They've already fired much of the staff and this move was anticipated. Now let's see if someone tries to "rescue" this astroturf rag...willing to lose millions "for the cause" as newspapers become "cost prohibitive" in the near future.

:hi:

4. I guess Moon's heirs don't care to bleed money from the propaganda arm anymore
No great loss. There's all kinds of wingnut media to fill the void.

I wonder if they'll still try to keep UPI. I would kind of love to get that name back in the hands of moderately responsible publishers.

9. Newspaper is a dying business
Just the facts. My guess is the Post buys them out and folds the paper.

10. "Father" knows when to cut his losses
The corporate right wing whore media has made the Moonie Times completely unnecessary. Why waste the money anymore?
