We had a small protest on Friday, one that went unreported in our local newspaper. Not a word in yesterday's hard copy, nothing in their online edition. Puzzling, since photographers were there and participants were interviewed.
So I was surprised when I went online this morning and went to the newspaper's online edition, and there was a photo of one of the protestors under a headline about racism and protests. Clicking on the link to the story brought disappointment. And disgust. The paper gives a very brief description of the protest, then advises readers to purchase a hard copy in order to read the story.
This is the same paper that inflated from 35 to 100 the number of teabaggers who protested on tax day; that entire story, with pictures, was posted to the online edition. This is the same paper that trumpets prep scores as red-letter 'breaking news' and posts every tiny detail of every game.
And this is the same paper that admonishes readers to be informed before going to the ballot box. Yeah, right.

If it were neglect they wouldn't cover the teabagger's protests either.
If it weren't for the internet and forums like this where tens of thousands of people come to get information we would all believe whatever they told us. I find it very scary to be at the mercy of news manipulators.

3. Yea, our Sunday paper's HEADLINE in bold letters was: |
|
CONSERVATIVE (TEA PARTY) MOVEMENT MAY BRING VOTORS TO THE POLLS . This got top billing over all other stories. And of course the big picture below showed about 100 people (all white) with huge American flags. No mention of 'Drill Baby Drill' however.

5. Corporations see the trend to populism and are promoting their own. |
|
People are organizing all over the country to push back on corporate power and its takeover of their government. So they put up money and buses and bozos and promote the idea that government is the problem, to whip up a misguided populist movement that they can direct and control.
They fear the real populist movement to get their corruption the hell out of government, and why should they cover it in their spun-out media?
Why not build and fund an alternative news network? With like Bill Moyers organizing and promoting it?

6. We had 1200 here at an antiwar rally a few years ago |
|
And not one media outlet here covered the event. Not one.
But you know they were all over the tea party crap. And at the undersold half governor event yesterday.
