After the collapse of the Soviet Union, as a way to keep scientists who had knowledge of weapons of mass destruction at home, our group tasked many of these scientists to create innovative solutions to deal with extraordinary circumstances.

One solution developed was a way to quickly and safely deal with the catastrophic failure of an undersea oil well or pipeline.

Another one of our group also created a nanotechnology that can safely clean up oil spills and slicks without damaging the environment. A video is here:
