Massive windspill reported in Southern California.
by JeffLieber

Sun May 02, 2010 at 01:01:16 PM EDT

I'm-- I'm so sorry if this is disjointed (WHOOOSH) or confusing (WHOOSH), but-- I find myself the middle of a disaster of unprecedented proportions (WHOOOSH) and -- oh the humanity -- I'm having a hard time understanding how we progressives (WHOOOSH) (WHOOOSH) could ever let this happen!?

You see, I live in Southern California... just north of the Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm... and this morning a lipstick lesbian biker gang lost control of their motorcycles and CRASHED into one of the turbines and now...

THERE IS (WHOOOSH) FUCKING WIND (WHOOOSH) EVERYWHERE!!!!

JeffLieber's diary :: ::

There's wind on the ground and over the water and filling the sky in a way God never, ever, intended (WHOOOSH) and -- as it spills out uncontrollably -- blowing at speeds (WHOOOSH) fast enough to lift up cows and houses and allegorical crones on bicycles I'm reminded of the opening scene of the environmental disaster film The Wizard Of Oz. (In fact FEMA is (WHOOOSH) dispatching the Army Corps of Engineers just in case someone gets trapped (WHOOOSH) under a house!)

We got cell phone calls all over the ground... fax transmissions smashed through the windshields of cars... and iPhone data strewn from Sacramento to the Mexican boarder.

How in God's name (TUMBLEWEED BLOWS BY) are we going to breathe with all this air in the air?

- snip -

But the worse part... I know find out that some asshole in the GREEN MOVEMENT allowed these WIND FARMS to be built right near SOLAR FARMS and so (WHOOOSH) what is going to happen if all this extra wind somehow manages to DESTROY THE SOLAR FARM and (WHOOOSH) next thing we know... we're dealing with THE FUCKING SUN SPILLING ALL OVER THE DESERT!

WHY DIDN'T WE LISTEN TO THE REPUBLICANS AND STICK WITH A SAFE ENERGY SOURCE LIKE OIL!?!?!

local Emergency response teams are advising that we look out for huge wind turbulence later today.

Luckily none of the California Solar Panel installations have broken loose at the same time, or this state might have felt a solar China Syndrome of unimaginable proportions!

21. Sailboats Investigated for Deliberate Windspills
Happened again the last time I went sailing, as a matter of fact. I had my buddy's ol' schooner heeled over pretty good, no water coming in over the gunnel (not quite), and he started getting a litttle nervous. "Spill some wind out of the sail," he says. I told him he'd have to file an environmental impact statement before I could in good conscience do that.

52. Solar spill clean up is easy
With out solar panels to catch them, trillions of photons hit the ground, just lying there to be picked up by plucky volunteers. The wind spill is worse, it justs goes all over the place, plus it's invisible!

34. This must be why my friend,
who lives about 25 miles south of those Tehachapi wind turbines, posted a complaint on facebook about the wind today. I had to grin, knowing that the wind has been blowing from the southwest without ceasing for at least the 2+ decades I lived there. But now I've got the answer; it isn't just the regular wind. It's a WINDSPILL!

35. Pentagon withdraws objection to Oregon wind farm project
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/30/AR2010043002485.html

<snip>

The Pentagon has withdrawn its objection to what promises to be the world's largest wind farm, allowing for construction to move ahead on the Shepherds Flat project in Oregon.

Senior Defense Department officials called Oregon Democratic Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley on Friday to say they will update the radar system near Fossil, Ore., so that its operation would not be affected by the 338 turbines that will be installed as part of the project. Both senators had lobbied fiercely for the $2 billion project, which could generate 16,000 jobs nationwide, after the Pentagon held up a permit that needs to be granted by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Construction had been slated to begin Saturday.

57. Hey!
The right to break wind is a strongly held American value. Ben Franklin held forth at some length on this inalienable right in his essay "Fart Proudly." Everyone should read it before dismissing the practice out of hand. Besides in the right place that could also be an alternate source of energy.

Just look at how quickly people move when someone cuts the cheese.:bounce:

89. I wonder if Ben...
ever asked the grandchildren to pull his finger? Of all the founding fathers, why is he the only one that would seem capable of that? You would never imagine Jefferson or Washington doing that.

102. I think Ben was a lot more of a free spirit ...
than the other founders. He had a raucous sense of humor that shows through in his writings and anecdotes about him which have survived the years.

He probably did have the grandchildren for assistance. Teaching aid. ;)

When we were driving my father used to tell us to roll up our windows quickly in a very alarmed tone of voice. We did, and then talk about a wind spill. Gaaaaaah.:wow: I have to wonder about us kids though. We fell for it every time. And he would be laughing his head off in the relative safety of the front seat with my mother. That brings forth another source of potential wind energy. Fathers in cars with their kids. Worth considering.

106. He is the one founding father...
that actually appears approachable. He was every bit as important as Washington and Jefferson, but there is something different about them. Ben was common and uncommon at the same time. Maybe being portrayed on the side of a mountain has something to do with this. If you haven't yet, read the biography by Walter Isaacson- it was pretty good.

I'll check it out. Ben was also the founder who cracked a joke at the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I think it was, "Gentlemen, we must hang together or we will surely hang alone." ;)

65. I see opportunity to improve
and fail to see the natural disaster here.

I agree we can't rely completely on wind but we can make much better use of it than we do. And, I believe the point in the OP, is the lack of disaster due to harnessing wind power. Did you miss that part? The parody thing in the OP which is pretending there is a catastrophic "wind spill"?

Little slow on the uptake today? Or just looking to squeeze in an agenda anywhere possible?

Julie

83. Thanks!
But Limpballs says there is nothing to fear it will be taken care of naturally like the oil spill. Check and see if he hasn't been in California that wind bag could be the source of your problems.

91. makes me think...
sources like wind are called "clean energy"... so what are we calling sources like oil? It needs a new name like "filthy, dangerous, hideous, world destroying disaster-courting energy for idiots"

99. Well John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have been blowing enough hot air
. . . to make a major, toxic windspill inside the Beltway . . . and. Fox Noise has create enough additional wind to spread it to the rest of the country. Of course, that's miniscule compared to the Megadittoes Hot Air Spill.
