If it is discovered that the attempted bomber is a right-wing tea-bagger..?
Would FOX News, Glen Beck, Sarah Palin, and Rush Limbaugh be partly responsible for his actions? Would it have happened without their encouragement?

Of course, we don't yet know who did it but this may very well be the case?

3. Pressure cooker. Gas cylinders. At the risk of being adumbrative
I don't think our Times Square bomber is from around here. Pressure cooker bombs and gas cylinder bombs are pure Punjab jihadi, plenty of examples out there. I can't think of a single American example of a bomb being built this way, maybe someone else can.

7. Actually I wonder if our boy
got some ideas from Mythbusters...

Points to what a few weeks ago episode...

Damn if there is any connection there goes a good program

:-)

Yes, they were doing that... and trying to get a critical failure and didn't quite achieve it.

So if this guy is local... copycat of a TV program.

And I just remembered that little detail. But the description of the "device" are way too similar to the Mythbuster program.

One thing that did strike me about this...a couple days ago they reran the Mythbusters episode about blowing up propane tanks...unless the tank it altered, there's a safety valve that would release the pressure and prevent a store bought cannister from exploding. It would have to be modified and the safety disabled for it to be lethal. Just found the timing very curious...

Inside the enclosed space of the car, correct? The propane tank would not have to explode.

4. Anything to point the finger at Obama to say he's soft on terrorism.
Edited on Sun May-02-10 05:25 PM by GreenTea
If the bomb went off that's exactly the way republicans you mentioned would spin it..."Obama's not keeping us safe"....expect more of these planned setups to blame Obama, as they try to paint Bush as the president who "kept us safe" yet always conveniently forget 9-11 occurred a full eight months (from January to September) after Bush was in office and with many warnings that it was going to occur...of course they wanted it to....gave Bush & the neocon republicans free rein for a corporate fascist agenda & policies for eight years.

11. NO, I didn't say that either. But really, the obsession some here have with FR
and other right wingers is IMO, not healthy.

Most of my extended family are secular right wingers. They are NOT dangerous - they disagree with us and think some of us are "nuts" but many, deep down, are good people and good Americans.

25. And McVeigh was on the fringe of the fringe . . .
But he still got his ideological marching orders from the heart of the wingnut universe.

I don't think it's inappropriate to worry that teabaggers might have a few deranged killers in their ranks. Frankly, it strikes me as quite likely. Words have power -- especially over the semicrazy -- and there's no denying that their words are provocative, dangerous, inflammatory.

The following bon mot is frighteningly on the money: "If you're hearing crazy voices in your head, stop listening to Fox News."

35. Can't say I know any teabaggers personally, so maybe . . .
I have to defer to you on what their response might be.

But do you really think that McVeigh read that one book and decided to destroy a building? Or did he steep himself in the same irrational hatred of government that is at the heart of the teabagger movement -- just as other wingnuts are doing today -- and then make the choice to act out his sick fantasies?

serving the ruling elites of this country. Make no mistake, when they are done with you, they'll bankrupt you too. Look at what the "establishment" democrats have done for their base?

Name me a "left-wing killer" who's performed a political assassination recently. I honestly can't think of one.

Also, I think a rant about rapacious corporations is maybe a trifle off-topic when the question is "who planted an amateur car bomb in NYC."

38. Well, if it's a "stupid" game
Then it appears you've won. You said the tea baggers weren't killers, given evidence to the contrary, you'd now like the subject to be anything except whether the tea baggers are killers. They clearly are. Now, you'd like it to be about left wing killers. Or corporations. What's next? Whether the Red Sox have enough left-handed pitching?

32. no. no more than al gore is responsible for the latest ALF or ELF bombing
it's the "nutcase veto" in action

also, sometimes "it very well may be the case" tends to bite people in the ass. NOBODY here predicted the ft hood shooting was a islamist terrorist before the news came out that he was, despite the fact that the last person who had fragged the troops was similarly motivated.

people here are focused on ONE and ONE threat only.

39. They'll try to deny it.
Because if it does come out that the "domestic terrorist" is a Teabagger, the RNC are going to do their best to distance themselves from the man.

After all, they want to get back those seats in Congress by all means necessary.

Even more disturbing is the fact that if the perpetrator is a Teabagger, others of his ilk will champion him as a hero. Not one of the Republicans batted an eye with Sean Hannity called the Teabagging crowd "followers of Timothy McVeigh".
