Washington Post Book World deputy editor Jabari Asim describes the historical underpinnings of the racial epithet in his new book, The N Word: who can say it, who shouldn't, and why. Mr. Asim contends that the word should not be used in casual conversation, but that it can be engaged by a select group who intend to twist the word and progress African American identity and culture. He is interviewed by author Bakari Kitwana, a former executive editor for The Source magazine, and co-founder of the National Hip-Hop Political Convention.

Chris Jones talks about his new book, "Too Far From Home," at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. In the book, Mr. Jones tells the story of three astronauts who found themselves stranded on the International Space Station after the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon re-entry on February 1, 2003 and the space program was put on hold indefinitely.

Chris Jones has been a Writer at Large at Esquire since 2005 when he won the Magazine Award for Feature Writing for the story that became the basis for this book.

Billy the Kid (1859-1881) is synonymous with the folklore of the America West an outlaw that came to represent the savagery of the western frontier. Historian Michael Wallis sets out to demystify this legend and give depth to the young man born Henry McCarty AKA Henry Antrim, Kid Antrim, Billy Bonney, El Chivato and finally only during the final year of his life Billy the Kid. The author contends that the image of Billy the Kid was greatly manipulated and that he was responsible for fewer deaths than he had been accused. Michael Wallis discusses his new book with Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Missouri.

Michael Wallis has published over fourteen books including "Pretty Boy: The Life of Charles Arthur Floyd" and "Route 66." He is the host of the PBS special "American Roads" and was most recently the voice of the Sheriff in the motion picture, "Cars". Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Missouri, is currently serving his third term in Congress and is the House Minority Whip.

A panel discussion on the topic of civilians in the path of war from the Colby Military Writers' Symposium. Panelists include Lt. Col. John Nagl author of "Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife: Counterinsurgency Lessons from Malaya and Vietnam," Anne Nivat author of "The Wake of War: Encounters with the People of Iraq and Afghanistan," Gerhard Weinberg author of "Visions of Victory: The Hopes of Eight World War II Leaders," Mark Grimsley and Clifford Rogers co-authors of "Civilians in the Path of War," and John Glusman author of "Conduct Under Fire: Four American Doctors and Their Fight for Life as Prisoners of the Japanese, 1941-1945." The panel is moderated by James Jay Carafano.

Lieutenant Colonel John Nagl commands the 1st Battalion, 34th Armor at Fort Riley, Kansas. Anne Nivat is a freelance journalist that currently contributes mainly to the French weekly Le Point. Novelist Walter Mosley appeared on Booknotes in February of 2000 to discuss his book, "Workin' on the Chain Gang: Shaking Off the Dead Hand of History."

Walter Mosley is the author of many books, including mysteries featuring his Easy Rawlins character. He has won the TransAfrica International Library Prize as well as the Black Caucus of the American Library Association's Literary Awarda. He was a finalist for the NAACP Fiction Award.

Where Have All the Leaders Gone?
Lee Iacocca

Lee Iacocca expresses his outrage at today's political and business leaders in his book, "Where Have All the Leaders Gone?" Iacocca is critical of President Bush’s handling of the Iraq War and says Congress refuses to tackle the biggest problems facing the United States. And business leaders, Iaccoa charges, are more interested in making money for themselves than building strong companies. In the book, Iaccoa also sizes up the 2008 presidential hopefuls.

Lee Iacocca is the former CEO of Chrysler. He is widely credited with saving the company when it faced bankruptcy in the late 1970s. His first book, "Iacocca: An Autobiography" was a best seller in the 1980s.

Bernard Goldberg spent twenty eight years as a reporter for CBS News. In 1996, while still at the network, he wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal accusing broadcast news operations of having a liberal bias. Mr. Goldberg expanded on that theme in his 2001 book, "Bias." He is currently a sports reporter at HBO.

Mr. Johnson discusses his book and takes questions at the Columbia University bookstore in New York City.

42. This was a very good segment. Among other things, Cirincione
excoriated Junior's foreign policy and pointed out that all the countries in the "axis of evil" are more dangerous today than they were before the occupation.

In a speech held at Museum of the City of New York Robert Caro reflects on his writing of "The Power Broker," a biography of Robert Moses, which won a Pulitzer Prize in 1974.

Robert Caro is the author of a three volume biography of Lyndon Johnson and is the winner of two Pulitzer Prizes in Biography. He is also the recipent of the National Book Award, two time winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, the H. L. Mencken Award, the Carr P. Collins Award from the Texas Institute of Letters, and an Award in Literature and a Gold Medal in Biography from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters.

From the Great Hall at Cooper Union in New York, a memorial service for historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. who died February 28. Speakers include: Bill Clinton, Henry Kissinger, Sen. Edward Kennedy, Christina Schlesinger, Norman Mailer, Ted Sorensen, Sean Wilentz, Stephen Schlesinger, Peter Allan, Robert Schlesinger, William vanden Heuvel, Lauren Bacall, Lord Hugh Thomas, Hugh Schlesinger

Arthur Schlesinger was a former special assistant for the Kennedy administraion and was the author of over twenty books. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945 for "The Age of Jackson," and again in 1966 for "A Thousand Days."

In "Making War to Keep Peace," former UN Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick surveys U.S. foreign policy in the post Cold War era and offers her thoughts on American interventions abroad. She died in December 2006, just after completing the book. Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp discusses Ms. Kirkpatrick's book at the Oxonian Society in New York.

Jeane Kirkpatrick was the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1981 to 1985. After leaving the Reagan administration, Ms. Kirkpatrick was a professor at Georgetown University and a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.

Carlo Bonini with Craig Unger

Carlo Bonini, an investigative reporter for Italy's La Repubblica, talks about the forged documents used to by the Bush administration to argue that Iraq was trying to buy uranium from Niger. Mr. Bonini and his colleague, Giuseppe D'Avanzo, broke the story in La Repubblica. They later broke the story of the CIA's kidnapping of an Egyptian cleric in Milan (which led to the CIA agents being ordered to stand trial by an Italian judge) and more recently reported that Bush administration officials have been meeting with Iranian government officials in Rome. Mr. Bonini talks with journalist Craig Unger about these and other stories at this event hosted by the Overseas Press Club.
