BP Trying To Get Gulf Coast People To Give Up Their Right To Sue For $5,000!
Edited on Sun May-02-10 08:10 PM by BlooInBloo
I suppose since republicans (and many others) think lawsuits are "frivolous", this might actually work.

http://blog.al.com/live/2010/05/bp_told_to_stop_circulating_se.html

"Alabama Attorney General Troy King said tonight that he has told representatives of BP Plc. that they should stop circulating settlement agreements among coastal Alabamians.

The agreements, King said, essentially require that people give up the right to sue in exchange for payment of up to $5,000.

King said BP's efforts were particularly strong in Bayou La Batre."

Stay classy, BP.

Americans, this is another one of those decision-moments, where you get to decide how stupid you are, and show everyone.

1. Fucking predators.
How dare they? If I was a fisherman there, I would likely get locked up for kicking the shit out of some BP rep.

4. One would think that there would be a flood of attorneys...
heading down to the gulf to handle matters of this sort.

Kinda surprised that the fishermen are not chartering cruises out to the oil spill...at least they could keep up their boat payments and always needed maintenance by doing so.

10. I'll be curious to see if BP starts a "tort reform" front group soon.

5. scared, are they?
Or maybe they know that this leakage is going to get a lot worse. I somehow doubt they're doing it out of the goodness of their little hearts.

$5000 isn't much for potentially losing your livelihood for who knows how many years, is it?

9. Is ANYONE working on finding a solution?
I say we invent some kind of silly string, only a whole lot thicker, that gets as heavy as stone when it spews out in seawater. Then the thing can be spiraled around the hole until it gets large enough to plug it up. Better than Plumber's Putty.

7. Settle for $5,000.00 when they can get more in a lawsuit
They are counting on the desperation on some of the folks down there. I hope no one did this.

11. Troy King actually yelled at a corporation?
I'm confused. Were they handing out sex toys with the paperwork? Did someone tell him gambling was involved?
