Pipe bomb blows off Vacaville man's fingers
Pipe bomb blows off Vacaville man's fingers; 2 arrested

VACAVILLE, CA - A Vacaville man lost two fingers and two friends were arrested after investigators said a homemade pipe bomb blew up in the man's hand in a Vacaville park Saturday night, authorities said.

The device went off in Centennial Park on Browns Valley Road in Vacaville around 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Vacaville police Sgt. Charlie Spruill said.

Spruill said officers got involved after a call from Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville, where a 19-year-old man arrived with serious injuries.

Following interviews with the victim, investigators determined the man, two friends and a group of high school students met in the park to blow up the device. According to authorities, the man was trying to throw the lit pipe bomb when it prematurely detonated in his hand, Spruill said.

Had he done that, he'd still have his fingers. There wouldn't have been an explosion, but he'd still have his fingers.
