Anybody want to go correct an error on the NPR site?

I don't want to register for another site and you can't post a comment otherwise, but this blog has some major misinformation about the Gulf oil mess.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2010/05/one_gulf_oil_spill_went_for_ne.html

Here's the quote:

"The IXTOC 1 accident is considered the world's second worst oil spill following the Exxon Valdez in Alaska's Prince William Sound. It's estimated that as many as five million gallons of oil were spilled. Nearly 11 million gallons of crude oil was estimated spilled by the Exxon Valdez."

The error is that the IXTOC actually released between 3-5 million BARRELS, not gallons!

So, if any of you are registered over there and care to leave a correction, I'm sure it would be nice.

Here's the reference material if you want to verify:

1. The reason for the confusion is that
different sources have been quoting different numbers. I just found an article that said the well is spewing 210,000 gallons a day. I don't know what to believe.

3. Had you read the comments, you might have noticed that someone did...
hours ago. You might also have noticed that the link lead to the report with all the info in it.

It was a small error, soon to be forgotten, and which really changes nothing.

4. I did scan through the comments but it seemed
that most of them were talking about the depth issue, but now I did find the one comment that discussed this glaring error.

And I don't think it was a small error; the article was saying Exxon Valdez was the WORST oil spill in history.

Thanks for catching that!
