WORST AD EVER:Beck trashes Mothers Day as "big business scam" during radio ad for Vermont Teddy Bear
In what had to be the worst on-air endorsement in the history of radio, Glenn Beck today interrupted a Mother's Day-themed Vermont Teddy Bear Co. ad to rail against Mother's Day. Beck called it a "big business scam" started by Woodrow Wilson.

BECK: Our sponsor this half hour is the Vermont Teddy Bear Co. Vermont Teddy Bear is getting ready for Mother's Day weekend. Can you believe Mother's Day week -- by the way, Sarah and I were talking on Saturday and she ddidn't believe me, or it was on Friday, and she didn't believe me. And I said, Mother's Day, it's a scam. It's a big business scam. And I said, I bet it was started by Woodrow Wilson. Look it up, Sarah. And she didn't. I said, look it up. She's like, no, I'm not going to look it up. I said, look it up, I'll bet you, I'll bet you. Mother's Day? Started 1914. Woodrow Wilson. Hate that guy. Love my mom. Hate the holiday. Now, you could go to Hallmark because Hallmark and Woodrow Wilson would like you to do that. But there's something new from Vermont Teddy Bear. Three handmade teddy bears in pink, green, and white. The bears are scented, each one with a different scent: strawberry, watermelon and cupcake. It's like a bouquet of flowers, only it's a bear bouquet for life. Call 1-800-829-BEAR or go to VermontTeddyBear.com, VermontTeddyBear.com. Something new for mom this year to let her that you love her and you're thinking about her. The bear bouquet. From Vermont Teddy Bear. Delivery before Mother's Day is guaranteed. Don't forget guys, it's Sunday. 1-800-829-BEAR or shop online at VermontTeddyBear.com.

Note how Beck tries to save himself by trashing Hallmark. But he still presses ahead plugging the special Mother's Day bear bouquet moments after saying Mother's Day is a "big business scam."

Beck may have just lost another advertiser.

8. what is Vt Teddy Bear doing advertising on Glenn Beck?
I thought virtually all sponsors had dropped that racist douche.
I never had any desire for a VTB, but now I CERTAINLY don't.

11. Ohhh, would he HATE the actual original Mother's Day!!!
http://www.chiff.com/a/mothers-day-origins.htm

Arise then...women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts!
Whether your baptism be of water or of tears!
Say firmly:
"We will not have questions answered by irrelevant agencies,
Our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage,
For caresses and applause.
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn
All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience.
We, the women of one country,
Will be too tender of those of another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs."

From the bosum of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says: "Disarm! Disarm!
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."
Blood does not wipe our dishonor,
Nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war,
Let women now leave all that may be left of home
For a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace...
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar,
But of God -
In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask
That a general congress of women without limit of nationality,
May be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient
And the earliest period consistent with its objects,
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions,
The great and general interests of peace.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if on some distant Mother's Day, the wishes of Julia Ward Howe could be fulfilled and the human race could celebrate a day when, all over the world, no mother would have to mourn the death of her child lost in war or terrorist attacks...

To all of the mothers whose children are fighting in wars - and to mothers whose children are growing up with wars raging around them or with terrorism threatening their safety... Wishes of strength, peace and hope for this Mother's Day...

16. Glenn Beck is only one man
But he's doing his best to unlearn the lessons of charity, mercy and patience, and teaching his listeners as well. What a shameful, small man, and what a wretched country that raises such a man to respectability.

17. We do a bit of that ourselves, but we don't want to face it in ourselves.
No comment at all on the true original Mother's Day?

How about printing it out and handing it out to mothers on Sunday?

36. Yea BoBo!! I just called the teddy bear company
I told the nice lady that I think their bears a darling but I would never
buy one as long as they advertise on Glen Beck. I said "he is a fascist and a racist hater who is bad for our country."

I believe in the right to free speech, but lying has it's own repercussions.

14. i thought that was all part of capitalism, free market yada yada stuff he and his ilk
are always touting as so awesome. I find some of the commercials i see annoying, like buy for every woman in your life kind of crap... and then the one with the kids who told their dad to go to a certain place to buy the mother some expensive diamond thing.... personally i do not need any of those things and would value a homemade item over anything else as the thought required and effort is worth more. But the marketization of every special day is commonplace. but let's bitch about this one. did beck have mommy issues??

21. DONT BUY from PRO FLOWERS EITHER!
ProFlowers is a sponsor of Limblah, Hannity and Beck. DO NOT USE THEM! If you listen to Hannity more than three minutes he is plugging Proflowers. He even likes to sneak in Proflowers ads when talking to his hatecallers by telling them he is going to send them flowers from Proflowers. DONT support companies that support HATEMONGERS like Beck, Hannity or Limblah. If you do you become part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.

Some companies just buy radio, they don't have a political agenda. They'll take money from anybody.

25. Hell has frozen over - I've always thought the same thing.
Mother's Day, Father's Day. All a big business ploy to make money. I especially hate Mother's Day. Not a year goes by that a cashier doesn't cheerily wish me a happy Mother's Day. There are a few of us who a) are not mothers and/or b) have lost our mothers and would rather not be reminded. Both categories apply to me.

26. WOW I actually give partial props to Beck on this one
not that he'd understand why.

Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Christmas, Secretary's day... all of these, and all the others I have forgotten, are part of the consumer culture we live in.

Oh and Consumerism is what ails us. And no, I don't have anything against my mom. She'll be here for Mother's day, and yes we will be participating in the consumerist tradition of going out to dinner.

But hey, I appreciate my mom Mother's Day or not, and will take her out for dinner either way.

35. Mother's Day Proclamation was written by Julia Ward Howe in 1870
protesting the carnage of the Civil War.

Here is an excerpt of a short film by Robert Greenwald called Mother’s Day for Peace from last year's Democracy Now! video.
