Poll question: How many days worth of oil would you trade for say the Gulf?
During the 08 election we pretty much asserted that the country has a total reserve of maybe three years or 1095. Maybe there is more maybe less. For this exercise I will assume that all 1095 days can be extracted from the Gulf of Mexico.

What's the minimum amount of days worth of oil you see as a reasonable trade for turning the Gulf into a new dead sea where no life can exist?

Would you make the trade under any circumstances?

Would your answer change if the damage was "only" a 80% loss, 70%, 60%, 50%, 40%, and so on?

1. My vote is none and that I was nuts for asking
but I assume there are a fair number of folks willing to make a deal because many seemed pretty comfortable taking a similar risk for a lot less in return.

I bet the gulf has a few months accessible supply.

2. We don't know that the damage will be limited to the Gulf.
I would say to trade years and years worth of oil to get the Gulf back -- if only that were possible.

3. I voted 2nd to last option
I believe we've already lost the gulf, and all I can do is hope against hope that it wakes people up a LOT of people, that oil stocks continue to plummet and alternative energy becomes the marching chant of not just our nation but every industrialized nation that doesn't want to share our fatal mistakes.

4. 50 -100 years; how about if all other sources of oil were cut off tomorrow?
