'Space alien' demands to fly plane; passengers decide otherwise

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -- A SkyWest Airlines flight from Helena, Mont., to Salt Lake City was diverted to Idaho Falls after a passenger began banging on the cockpit door, saying he was a space alien and wanted to fly the plane.

Idaho Falls Police Sgt. Phil Grimes says other passengers on the Sunday evening flight helped restrain 32-year-old Matthew Kleindorfer of Las Vegas. The plane landed just before 6 p.m.

Kleindorfer faces misdemeanor counts of disturbing the peace and resisting arrest and a felony count of battery of an officer.

He probably doesn't even have a commercial pilot's license; and certainly doesn't work for the airline that owns the plane. And he might even be hundreds or thousands of years old -- way past the age limit for commercial pilots.

If he wants to fly, let him get off his lazy ass and acquire his own flying saucer.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — An unruly passenger who banged on the cockpit door of a SkyWest flight en route from Helena, Mont., to Salt Lake City was arrested after the plane made an emergency landing Sunday in Idaho Falls.

Delta Connection Flight 4620 was in the air and headed to Utah when a passenger got up and approached the cockpit, said SkyWest spokeswoman Marissa Snow.

"Reports from our crew say he actually started banging on the flight deck door," she said.

Snow did not have any other information to release Monday, including whether the man said anything while banging on the door.

Flight attendants and other passengers were able to get the man back in his seat while the pilots diverted to Idaho Falls. The plane landed just after 6 p.m. Sunday, when authorities took the man into custody, she said.
