'Plucky' Lowden changes her tune: Everyone Has Access To Health Care — At Emergency Room
Lowden’s Campaign Chief: Everyone Has Access To Health Care — At Emergency Room

Okay, chickens-for-checkups has taken another new turn: Sue Lowden’s campaign manager has now said that all Americans already have access to health care — because if you get shot in the chest, you can simply head over to the emergency room.

This will make it easier for Dems to argue that there’s a serious ideological reality underlying all the joking about Lowden’s proposal, since disavowed, to bring down health care costs with barter: Lowden doesn’t have any real plan to fix our health care mess.

Robert Uithoven, Lowden’s campaign chief, made the claim on Nevada columnist Jon Ralston’s TV show:

Asked if all Americans should have access to health care, Lowden’s campaign chief answered:

They do. If I have a bullet hole in my chest, I can go down to UMC and I’m gonna get health care.

UMC is the University Medical Center, the only publicly run hospital in Los Vegas. No word on whether people who have been shot in the chest should grab a chicken en route to the hospital in hopes of using it to purchase better treatment. :)

1. Lowden's New Plan: Universal Coverage for Gunshot Victims
No such luck with cancer or chronic illness but if you get shot, you're covered!

2. It's going to be hard to keep a sterile environment with a bunch of chickens on the loose in the ER.

3. Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to UMC's ER for gunshot wound treatment.

4. Erroneous talking point
ERs are only required to stabilize life threatening situations.
For ongoing care they tell the patient to see their family physician.
In other words, a person who is critical with Stage 4 cancer can go to the ER for death care.

13. And they're NOT FREE
the ER will make every effort to collect for the services, including collection agencies.

5. Seems like the right time and place
When you find yourself in danger
When you're threatened by a stranger
When it looks like you will take a lickin'
There is someone waiting
Who will hurry up and rescue you
Just call for Super Chicken!

Fred, if you're afraid you'll have to overlook it
Besides you knew the job was dangerous when you took it

He will drink his super sauce
And throw the bad guys for a loss
And he will bring them in alive and kickin'
There is one thing you should learn
When there is no one else to turn to
Call for Super Chicken!
Call for Super Chicken!

6. Hey, those ERs are sure going to be full of chickens.
Because ER use when things go south is so much more expensive than a regular doctor's care that can often prevent what will send people to the ER. So people will have to bring LOTS of chickens to the ER.

And the ER isn't going to be very sanitary with all that chicken shit.

But then, the Senate wouldn't be very sanitary with all of Lowden's chicken shit.

7. Not a joke,
I actually had one of my patients drag her three chickens to the ER with her.

She was in a car vs bus on the interstate to Tijuana... and well, she had the three family chickens with her.

So yes, we took the three cages on the rig, and yes we took her to the ER. And yes, one of our volunteers was a vet, who gave the chickens a once over... just outside the Emergency Room, and we fed them some bread, and gave them water.

All concerned went home that night. We got a few fresh eggs a week later.

:-)

9. Emergency Room/Trauma Center can help with bullet hole, but not diabetes and
the chronic nature of the disease which requires regular care and medication.

She's wrong on so many levels!

10. UMC also has some serious problems...
...in how it delivers care to those who avail themselves. For example, there was a recent case of a pregnant woman who did not know she was pregnant. She was in the waiting room for hours in extreme pain, but they refused to see her even when her companion asked them repeatedly. Even other people in the waiting room asked repeatedly, to no avail. They eventually went to another hospital, but it was too late by then and she lost the baby.

Oh, did I mention the couple was black? Surprise, surprise.

Not to mention, for most of us, "health care" means more than being able to show up at an emergency room if we've been shot. There are checkups, preventive care, chronic conditions like asthma, illnesses like cancer that can creep up and if you wait until it's an emergency, it is far far too late.

Sue Lowden is an idiot who still has not learned when to shut up and minimize the damage of her chicken remarks. I guess that's a good thing, for those of us who would like to see Harry Reid return to the Senate.
