LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Education says more than $77 million in federal stimulus funding is headed for Nebraska to support education and public services.

The office of Sen. Ben Nelson says the money is part of the second phase of funding for Nebraska under the State Fiscal Stabilization funds program.

The money is aimed at helping stabilize the budgets of state and local governments so they can minimize reductions in education and other essential public services.

Nelson’s office says that during the first phase, Nebraska got nearly $209 million.
