GOP's Candidate for Gov In Minnesota Wants To Nullify All Federal Laws
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/05/gops-candidate-for-gov-in-minnesota-wants-to-nullify-all-federal-laws.php

The Minnesota Republican Party's official candidate to succeed Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who is looking ahead to a 2012 run for President, is a staunch conservative well to Pawlenty's right who has a long history of "Tentherism," the attempts by the far right-wing to invoke the Tenth Amendment and nullify federal laws on various liberal initiatives. He has even proposed a state constitutional amendment that would allow federal laws to operate in Minnesota only if they were consented to by super-majorities of the state legislature.

State Rep. Tom Emmer picked up the official Republican endorsement at the party's convention this weekend, and he also walked away with the backing of Pawlenty himself. "We don't have any doubt about what Tom Emmer stands for or what his values are," Pawlenty said at the convention. "He is strong. He is steadfast. He is clear. ... He is going to be the next governor of the state of Minnesota." Emmer also has the support of Sarah Palin, who praised him just before the convention got underway as a "hockey dad" who once played for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks -- a move that may have been a tipping point, according to the Star-Tribune.

1. This is why the GOP isn't going to have as good a year as they think
When it gets down to specifics, the voters are going to look at the particular candidate and react with revulsion at the Rush Limbaugh-approved right wing moron who sounds about at sane Michele Bachmann, as candid as Sarah Palin or as upright as Michael Steele.

2. What are his chances?
I would think not so good, since Minnesota had the good sense to send Frankin to the Senate. OTOH, it was a long protracted recount ... Are there any prognosticators here?

7. The existence of the Independence Party
has caused all sorts of problems for the DFL. That's how Pawlenty got elected. That's also why the count was so close between Franken and Normie-boy.

9. Hope our Dems can GOTV then.
It's alarming to see what has happened to the Republican party post Rush Limbaugh & Gang. Alarming and apalling.

4. You forgot to add that he
also wants to pass a law that will let employers opt out from providing employees with health insurance. Add that one to the wing nutter's case. I don't think there are enough right wing radical republicans to put this guy in office. Because even if you are a republican you are not going to agree with what he says he will do.

And after Phewlenty I really don't think a republican has a chance.

8. We thought Pukelenty didn't have a chance in 2006,
but thanks to the IP every republican has a better chance. Though this ranting lunatic may actually pull votes to the IP from the 'pubs instead of the DFL this time around.

5. Is there a strong 3rd party in Minn or is the DFL fairly well united?

6. There's not a strong 3rd party per se.
But its existence has caused the past few governor's races to go to Republicans without them winning a majority of the vote.
