Scientist Doesn't See a Way for Preventing Oil From Reaching Florida Keys, Eastern Seaboard

by Brian Skoloff

GULFPORT, Miss. - Scientists say the Gulf oil spill could get into the what's called the Loop Current within a day, eventually carrying oil south along the Florida coast and into the Florida Keys.

Nick Shay, a physical oceanographer at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, said Monday once the oil enters the Loop Current, it likely will end up in the Keys and continue east into the Gulf Stream.

Shay says the oil could affect Florida's beaches, coral reefs, fisheries and ecosystem within a week.

He described the Loop Current as similar to a "conveyor belt," sweeping around the Gulf, through the Keys and right up the East Coast.

Shay says he cannot think of any scenario where the oil doesn't eventually reach the Florida Keys.

2. There was a missing boater on the West of Florida off Tampa....
..His 30' boat broke apart in a storm and was lost at sea. The Coast Guard could not find him.

4 weeks later.. his body and the front section of the boat washed up on a beach not far from Cape Canaveral on the east coast.

What this article saying is true.

This is a living nightmare. Today oil officials said it may take them 3 MONTHS to stop the flow of oil.

3. Yes, but thanks to deregulation, they saved $500,000!
And since THEIR liability is capped at $75,000, it's still a great deal!

7. It's capped at ($75M) $75,000,000, not $75,000
however, congress is working now to raise that cap to $10B.

since there is no cap on the suffering, though, there really shouldn't be a cap on he penalty for inflicting that suffering.
