Massive Oil in the Gulf: Monday 3, 2010

Photos taken Monday, May 3, 2010, concerning the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico began to show some of the environmental damage beginning to show up along the shoreline.

In Chandeleur Sound, a dead, oil-covered pelican was seen near the shore. Clumps of oil floated in the water.

To the east, high water made for good surfing but covered roads along Dauphin Island, Ala. On Mississippi beaches, crews performed a new kind of beachcombing sure to be seen often in the future: Looking for signs of oil or wildlife destruction.
