Oil "Spill" And "Natural Disaster" Language... |
|
I'm one who believes that words do matter.
So...
The Exxon-Valdez was an oil spill caused by man. The oil was aboard the ship, the man broke the ship, and the oil spilled out. The result of man's mistake caused a natural disaster.
The DeepWaterHorizon was an accident caused by man, that allowed the uncontrolled release of an underwater gusher, of millions of gallons of crude oil under gargantuan pressure. The man thought he had control of those very extreme forces, and he was wrong. And again, the result of man's mistakes caused a natural disaster.
Just for the record...

1. I consider them both "man-made" disasters. There is nothing "natural" about them. |

My point is that man-made disasters tend to become disasters for nature.

5. Well... So Far Man Has Managed To Avoid (Somewhat) His Despoiling Of Nature... |
|
but now that we're fucking with an entire sea basically...
Just hoping we don't end up making man's disaster on all of the rest of us.
We sort of need nature, ya know???
